I come from a Star Trek family. My mom grew up watching the original series, & my grandfather called her, a skinny kid, "Bones" after Dr. McCoy. My brother & I came up with TNG (our childhood dog's name was Mr. Worf), & as an elder millennial, Picard was *my* captain. Stewart played Picard with a perfect balance of stoicism, integrity & compassion that was reflected in how he lived his life. What a loss.
Revered actor Patrick Stewart, the Emmy-winning performer beloved for both his amiable persona and roles in popular franchises like 'Star Trek' and 'X-Men,' has died at age 86 🕊️

"He who was my companion through adventure and hardship is gone forever…"
Patrick Stewart's entire body of work, but as Picard in particular, is something that connects the person I am today with who I was as a kid. It collapses time for me. I still have the same awe and fascination with his performance and belief that it represents the best of us.

Star Trek TNG influenced much of my early politics - especially Patrick Stewart's monologues. Many Socialists are paralyzed by self-doubt & the fear of failure, which we use as an excuse for inaction. That's something we can't afford! The world needs you! Imperfection and all!

When Democrats win the same thing happens, but worse, a few years later because their feckless do-nothing defense of the status quo stokes the fascists fires. I don't believe electoral politics should be abandoned, but treating it as the primary front of the fight is a mistake.

I'm just glad I don't live in a dictatorship but a free democracy where every few years I can vote for a different banker or lawyer or landlord that represents the vast network of powerful corporate interests that controls every aspect of my life from cradle to grave

I think something we need to all reckon with is that Universal Healthcare is never going to happen in this system. Never. It will LITERALLY be easier AND faster to fight for revolution than to get 60 Senators who will all vote for single payer with a president who won't veto.
Replying to @BrentInQueens
“What’s the point of a socialist org if we have people who aren’t socialists in it?” is a completely fair objection! I just think America is in such a hole right now that we need to implement things like universal healthcare first before we even contemplate what comes after.

Reading "Star Star" made me realize how Shatner came up with "TekWar"
PROJECT HAIL MARY author Andy Weir has an idea for a STAR WARS and STAR TREK crossover. “In my mind, I call it 'Star Star’…The idea is that the Genesis device going off at the end of 'The Wrath of Khan' rips a hole in the fabric of reality. And so did, too, the Death Star exploding in 'A New Hope.' It becomes the Yavin/Mutara wormhole. Then I imagine the Enterprise goes there, and so from that point forward, the stories diverge from canon…When the Enterprise goes to the 'Star Wars' universe, Spock [Leonard Nimoy] is dead, because it's the end of 'The Wrath of Khan,' but then Spock becomes a Force ghost. And Sulu [George Takei] has inherent Jedi abilities which manifest once he goes there."  (Source: inverse.com/entertainment/an…)

Imagine having a DSA endorsed candidate leading in the polls & unironically thinking now would be a good time to un-endorse cuz she’s trying to Trojan horse socialism to liberals in a literal CNN interview and it didn’t satisfy your LARP signifiers and say the magic words for you

In 2023, Mississippi deputies tortured two Black men, sexually assaulted them, and one shoved a gun into Michael Jenkins’ mouth and fired. All six officers pleaded guilty. This wasn’t a relic of Jim Crow. It was state violence in modern America.
A deputy put the barrel of his gun into a man's mouth and pulled the trigger. It clicked. So he racked the slide and pulled it again. Michael Jenkins lived. This was JANUARY 2023. Braxton, Mississippi. 24 January 2023. A white neighbour telephoned the police to report that two Black men were at a house with a white woman. The homeowner, Kristi Walley, was a childhood friend of one of them. She was in hospital at the time. Six officers came. Five were Rankin County sheriff's deputies. The sixth was an off-duty officer from another force. They broke the front door down. They had no warrant. They called themselves the Goon Squad. Over roughly ninety minutes they handcuffed Michael Jenkins and Eddie Parker, beat them, used tasers on them repeatedly, poured liquids over them, sexually assaulted Parker with an object, and threatened them with rape. They used racial slurs throughout and told the men to go back to Jackson — to their side of the river. Then Hunter Elward put his service weapon in Michael Jenkins's mouth for what the officers later described as a mock execution. The first pull clicked. He racked the slide and pulled again. The round tore through Jenkins's tongue and shattered his jaw. He survived. Read the date again. The twenty-fourth of January, two thousand and twenty-three. Not 1963. Not Mississippi in the era your grandmother remembers. Three years ago, in a house, by men in uniform, who had a name for themselves. What they did next is at nine this morning, and it is arguably worse.

it's still genocide and it still happening
For the second time today, Israel has bombed a university in Gaza, just as students were finally returning to their classrooms after months of devastation. Many students and university staff have been killed or injured. Israel is determined to destroy even that hope, continuing its systematic destruction of education in Gaza.

🔴 “I just want my dad.” Israeli forces struck the Islamic University in western Gaza City twice within four hours, killing three university security guards and wounding several others, including students. Footage from Drop Site contributor Abdel Qader Sabbah shows grieving families at Al-Shifa Hospital saying goodbye to the three men. Relatives wept over their bodies and embraced one another. “It can't be my dad. Is it my dad? My dad is gone. I want to see him,” a young boy cried. “I know, but I just want my dad.” “Every day, every single day, we find martyrs, bombardment, and oppression. It's a deceptive ceasefire. The war has not stopped. Israeli brutality has not stopped,” Umm Rami Deeb told Drop Site. Asked whether the increase in Israeli strikes was intended to win votes ahead of Israel's elections in two days, Deeb said she believed that was the aim. “One day, [Netanyahu] will be made to answer for what he has done to us, God willing.” 🎥 @AbdSabbah91

The projection is insane. It is *your* “LARP signifiers” being checked off to invent a self-soothing narrative where Raman is a secret communist redpilling the liberal masses with views and aims she loves to conceal. Maybe she just believes what she says she does?
