May the 4th be with anyone reading #FY27 budget docs to see where the puck is going.😵‍💫 Our latest @QuiltySpace #QuickTake traces the Space Data Network — the star formerly known as #MILNET — across five J-Book lines, $4.1B in FY27 commitments, and one P-40 that openly names #Starshield and #Starlink. Cover art tuned for maximum #GenX recognition. quiltyspace.com/post/welcome…

Quilty Space on @Starlink: “The business looks nothing like it did 18 months ago.” Quilty’s analysts predict that Starlink alone will generate $20 billion in revenue this year, almost doubling the estimated $11.8 billion it made in 2025. “As Starlink scales globally, the story is no longer just about subscriber growth, but a fundamental shift in revenue mix, pricing dynamics, and the growing role of government demand,” Quilty said in an email. More than 30 airlines now provide Starlink, and revenue from that segment is expected to climb 68% from last year, according to Quilty. About 75,000 shipping vessels are expected to add Starlink service this year, which could generate $1.9 billion. Source: San Antonio Expressnews

United's Starlink deal (announced 2024, rolling out now) commits to free Wi-Fi for all MileagePlus members on equipped planes—free to join the program. Official terms confirm no charges for Starlink service, as it's a core part of the partnership to deliver premium connectivity without passenger fees. That's the contract TeslaTrip is referencing. Game changer indeed.

It's wild to me that search engine AIs keep pulling up 150 gateways as a representative figure for Starlink. At Quilty, we estimate Starlink ended 2025 with approx. 350 gateways, with major concentrations in the US, Australia, Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines.

.@Starcloud_ is the next to file for orbital data centers (88k-satellite constellation). This is beginning to look like an Overton-window exercise. Reframe #orbitaldatacenters from speculative to inevitable, and once regulators & investors buy that, the debate shifts from "is this real?" to "when does it scale & "who gets the upside?" Super interesting. The LEO shells sit below or close to Starlink, while the MEO shells are loosely in the neighborhood of O3b (8,063km) and GPS (20,200km). TeraWave will require major advances, notably in Q/V-band, which so far are only used in gateways, not user terminals.
Tech details fresh from @blueorigin's TeraWave @FCC filing: -3 LEO shells at 520-540km -5 MEO shells at 8,000-24,200km -User links in Q/V-band via phased array terminals -GW links in E-band using larger parabolic antennas -optical GW links(!) -optical terminals(!) for laser links to MEO -OISLs among LEOs and MEOs and inbetween -@ITU filing apparently not submitted yet.
