Akon once realized he was supposedly playing a show in Baltimore while he was still sitting in New York. On The Bootleg Kev Podcast he said his brother had been quietly booking gigs under his name. The brother would show up, perform as Akon, and pocket every cent. “He would go as me, he was a straight gangsta about it, and keep all the money for him without telling me nothing,” Akon explained. According to him the crowds never noticed—they couldn’t tell the two apart. Sometimes Akon only learned about the shows after spotting flyers advertising his own name. His brother wasn’t just a fan. He was running the entire thing behind his back.
