I wouldn't advise leaving a 14 year old in charge of overnight supervision of three younger siblings but is it criminal? No! She had a babysitter check on them before and after school. The 14 year old was clearly competent enough to call 911 when there was an emergency. Was it neglectful in a civil sense? Sure. Is it something the court should consider in awarding custody? Definitely. But criminal charges complete with a perp walk? Give me a break.

They're totally different things! The bar for upending a family due to bad parenting needs to be SO HIGH. Way higher than "I personally would not make this choice."

Accidents like this easily happen when parents ARE home. There is nothing here to suggest the child’s injury occurred specifically *because* mom was away.
I have four children about those ages, slightly older, and no way can I constantly watch them every second of the day. My son recently had a bicycle fall riding to practice. He’s fine. It happens.
Looking at the whole context, a babysitter coming in and out, limited time alone at those ages, I’m not sure this is a huge deal.

I’m one of the only people in my friend group without kids and anytime I go to one of the kids birthday parties, I hear this from both moms and dads. I think this is important to talk about, even if people give you shit for it. Too many people like the IDEA of having kids and people like you get shamed for not glamorizing that idea and speaking on the raw true feelings of parenthood.
Personally, I’m glad my friends are open about it because I’m getting older and I sometimes struggle with the decision to have or not have kids. I’ve started to realize that I don’t think I do, it’s just something that’s been shoved down my throat as a woman - my parents up until recently legit considered me the loser because I’m not married with kids, despite being independently wealthy and traveling the world.

The further we get away from the Zach Cregger Resident Evil movie releasing, the more funny the fandoms pre-release (Hell, even before the first trailer came out) hate boner for the film before it came out becomes for me. God, the Resident Evil fandom is dramatic sometimes.
