These were great questions to do as an introduction to compound area with Y7 - especially like the ones with subtraction. We're moving onto order of operations next week too, so hoping I can refer back to it then. Thanks @SegarRogers and @ChrisMcGrane84. startingpointsmaths.com/2021…

In this Bite Sized Math Moment, use number bars to balance the scale. For an added challenge, try not to use any number bars that match a number shown on the dice.

How would you explain why the red rectangle and the blue parallelogram have the same area?

ALT A tall skinny rectangle coloured in red has its bottom edge right next to the bottom edge of a tall skinny parallelogram in blue. The blue parallelogram slants to the right, so that its top edge is far away from the top edge of the rectangle, though a dotted line shows they are at the same height. There are little marks to show that the top and bottom edges of both shapes are all the same length as each other.

We need to talk about why students forget so much of what they learn.
Endless exercises, worked examples & precise definitions aren't enough.
So, what’s missing?

Last week our @NISDJonesSTEM Pre-Algebra students completed their Mission to Mars design challenge. @Desmos definitely helped our students visualize and test their hypotheses about the algebraic rules used to perform transformations and dilations.
Love seeing our @nisdmsmath teachers utilizing @Desmos polygraphs to provide their Ss with opportunities to demonstrate their math understanding using academic vocabulary!
RMS Patriots refined their questioning skills while using precise math vocabulary. Thank you! @Desmos @R_Ramos_MSMath @SherryMireles @mrscassiefern
