As we rebuild #Beirut, we must build a city for everyone.
@LinaAbiRafeh and I explain how to rebuild Beirut as the Arab World's first feminist city. Its not only possible, its necessary. 👇independent.co.uk/voices/bei…
Recently I visited the @PJGlassHouse.
It was stunning. And I was struck by the similarities between one of its structures and #Tripoli 🇱🇧 iconic International Fair, built in 1963.
‘Through more than 50 edicts, orders, and restrictions, the #Taliban have left no aspect of women’s lives untouched, no freedom spared.
They have created a system founded on the mass oppression of women that is rightly and widely considered #gender #apartheid.’
It's 2 years since the Taliban took control of #Afghanistan and imposed a systematic assault on the rights of women and girls.
The international community must continue to apply pressure for change.

It’s been two years since the Taliban took over in Afghanistan.
Two years that upturned the lives of Afghan women and girls, their rights and futures.
We can't forget the people of Afghanistan. We must amplify their voices in the fight for their rights to education and work.
A great team that has won almost everything there is to win. A tough loss but congratulations to Sweden 🇸🇪 for the win.
#Rapinoe will be missed on the field.
Thank you for inspiring a generation. 🙏

Three years after the tragic #Beirut port explosion, our hearts are with the grieving families.
@UN_Lebanon stands in solidarity with them, urging a credible investigation already far overdue. For truth and accountability , independent & impartial justice must be served.

Increasingly concerned by the risk of gender-based violence in the ongoing crisis in #Sudan.
Sexual violence is not collateral damage & must not be dismissed as such.
All parties must act now, and adhere to their international obligations to protect the human rights of women.

The latest Taliban assault on women's rights is not just a step taken in the wrong direction. It is a dead end.
It contradicts who we are, what we believe in and the values on which we were founded.
It must be acknowledged for what it is: a direct attack on the UN Charter.
This week we gathered aspiring candidates for the #municipal #elections to discuss electoral strategies / projects.
We heard agendas for investment in:

On girls’ schooling in Afghanistan, the Taliban “asked for time – and now the time is up. It’s one and a half years, nearly two years, and there is no sign of any action taken,” says academic @Orzala Nemat. “How much time do you need? It’s the future of a generation.”
Inspired by the work of the women of @AccessKitchen, who hosted a candid discussion on issues of gender equality and disability rights in 🇱🇧 with @AminaJMohammed.
Thank you to the governments of 🇦🇹🇯🇵🇦🇺 for your support to @unwomenlebanon and @LUPD_LB. – at Lebanon
Women with disabilities often experience discrimination and accessibility challenges in the workplace.
I visited the @AccessKitchen in Beirut, which offers employment, skills and empowerment to women with disabilities.
This afternoon Beirut’s @AccessKitchen, run by 🇱🇧 @LUPD_LB, hosted a skilled sandwich maker. 🥪
Thank you @AminaJMohammed for your visit, for listening so intently to the group gathered, and for offering to carry their voices forward for gender equality and disability rights.
