What a ridiculous policy. Adults complain teenagers aren't going anywhere anymore and then make it harder for them.

This is the correct take. People care about prices and COL, not trans issues. At some point you gotta campaign on the issues voters actually care about, something Talarico and other Democrats are doing and Republicans are ignoring it or paying lip service to it.
Feels like GOP learned wrong lesson from the success of the Trump They/Them ad. Point was Harris was focused on cultural issues when you’re worried about the economy. GOP flooding the zone with these type ads and voters could start asking why they’re talking about this instead of gas, groceries, housing or the war

Given Dems don’t exactly trust mail in voting right now despite SCOTUS blocking the recent rule this probably just means more are likely voting in person this cycle
The more useful comparison is the previous midterm, of course. So far, North Carolina’s mail ballot figures are less favorable to Democrats than at this point in 2022.
At 39 days out:
-Democratic requests: down 40.3%
-Republican requests: down 10.8%
-Unaffiliated requests: down 21.2%
-Accepted ballots overall: down 18.2%
Democrats still dominate mail voting, but their registration share advantage over Republicans is 11.3 points smaller among requests and 5.2 points smaller among accepted ballots.
That doesn’t prove weaker Democratic turnout overall. Voters can change when and how they vote, especially as things normalize from Covid era behavior. But the caution cuts both ways. These early mail figures don’t establish a Democratic turnout surge either.

These fuckers are literally the government Reagan warned us about.
And trying to strip out the logging of government jawboning contacts undermines a major (and important) point of the bill: giving people the ability to know whether their speech has been the target of jawboning in the first place. Information asymmetry is a massive barrier to remedying First Amendment violations in this context.
What normal person:
1) steals from airport security checkpoints
2) commits securities fraud
3) takes bribes and engages in public corruption
4) talks endlessly about the bible while doing adultery
...and then tries to paint someone else as abnormal for liking an entertainer?
Huh how weird and out of character that cops wouldn't want the tactics they use on others to be used on them.
Depriving students of "one of the best ways to learn something" because other students might cheat (newsflash: some students will find a way to cheat on anything you choose) seems like a highly questionable pedagogical choice.
Four years into the ChatGPT era, colleges may be further from solving the problem of AI cheating than ever before, @WillOremus argues: theatlantic.com/technology/2…

Censorship as the first formal element of Dems’ 2028 platform would be genuinely insane, if not for the fact that many Republicans would love to see it as theirs too.

The House took a major step in asserting federal influence over online speech. A well intentioned bill, designed in part it seems to cap the unconstitutional excesses of a Senate counterpart, itself seeks to censor lawful speech. It directs the FTC and other government agencies to endorse identity verification and promote it through coercion. It does nothing to address the explosion of unconstitutional age verification laws at the state level—dozens of which NetChoice itself has successfully fought (Nebraska having been blocked just yesterday). The major selling point of the KIDS Act, the lack of a “duty of care” is fleeting, as states have passed, and would retain the ability to pass under this law, their own unconstitutional bills containing a duty of care. There has been, across every level of our government, no serious attempt to address constitutional infirmities inherent in these proposals, clarified repeatedly by courts over and over again. Indeed, the loudest voices today have championed even more violative approaches, like explicit content regulation, architectural mandates, and outright bans. Only a small minority of voices in the GOP House conference oppose this bill out of genuine responsibility to the constitution. All of these bills degrade privacy and security, materially diminish the First Amendment protections that young people and adults have a full right to as Americans, and bring the United States more in line with a global effort to undermine the free and open internet. These bills are nothing to celebrate.

She should have used AI to assess her disastrous data center moratorium. So bizarre to recognize the benefits of AI to taxpayers while banning the infrastructure and jobs that power them.

Love to see Rep Baumgartner taking the lead in defending American companies against discrimination by foreign bureaucrats. The EU shouldn’t feel empowered to treat our businesses as piggy banks. Also, Go Zags!

Watching pro-social TV can have positive effects on kids' social interactions, aggression levels, altriusm, and levels of stereotyping.
Same appears to be true for smartphones: a 2024 study found watching pro-social short-form vids predicted an immediate increase in helpful and cooperative behavior compared to watching neutral short-form vids.
