bsky.app/profile/councilorgr… Insane. Portland Public Schools' enrollment has dropped by 12% since 2019. It's forecast to drop by another 12% over the next ten years. Herr Doktor Mitch's solution is to massively raise taxes to keep all the schools open.

Mitch is worried that parents will respond to school closures by moving out of Portland. Of course, he denies that massive tax increases will cause anyone to move out of Portland. Giving people like this political power will end up wrecking Portland.

Let me introduce you to a fellow named Max Naumann. In 1934, Naumann, a German Jew, urged fellow Jews to support Adolf Hitler. He defended the Nazi regime even as it persecuted Jews, and actually petitioned Hitler for the right of Jews to fly the German flag. In 1935, the Gestapo dissolved his organization and threw him in prison, where he attempted suicide. He died of cancer in 1939, before the Holocaust, but not before discovering how little his loyalty to the Nazis was worth. I'm not comparing Abdul El-Sayed to Hitler. I'm questioning the idea that a Jewish endorsement is, by itself, evidence of what's best for Jewish safety. From the Hellenizing Jewish elites of ancient Jerusalem to Jewish supporters of Iran's Islamic Revolution, we have examples throughout our history of Jews aligning themselves with political movements that ultimately turned against them. Their motivations differed, as did the consequences. But there's a lesson in Max Naumann's story that's worth remembering. Being Jewish has never made anyone immune to being catastrophically wrong about what's good for Jews. @PatinkinMandy @GadSaad
Help get @abdulelsayed elected to the senate! Jewish safety depends on a real multiracial democracy—and Abdul is the one fighting to protect it. Get involved and help at abdulforsenate.com/vote go.abdulforsenate.com We know how much it matters to live in a country where our rights are protected, where the law applies equally to everyone, and where the majority can’t just decide that some people don’t deserve the same freedoms. The safety and freedom we’ve found in America didn’t happen by accident. They exist because of democracy. And protecting democracy means protecting Jewish safety, too. We know what happens when those protections start to break down. When courts are weakened, elections are undermined, and people lose equal protection under the law, minorities are often the first to pay the price. Jews have seen this throughout our history. It’s one of the reasons so many of our families sought refuge in democratic countries. That’s why I find it so alarming to see what’s happening right now. When masked government agents are taking people off the streets and citizens are being shot in public, we should all be worried about where things are headed. As Jews, we know that when a government starts targeting certain groups of people, no one should assume they’re safe from what comes next. Mike Rogers has chosen to align himself with a movement that is willing to attack our democracy. He stood with Trump and refused to accept the results of the 2020 election. And now we’re seeing what happens when a political movement treats the rights and dignity of certain people as disposable. For Jews, these things should set off alarm bells. Jewish safety is tied to the health of our democracy. We can’t protect one without protecting the other. And in this Senate race, Abdul is the candidate who understands that and is willing to fight for it. #abdulelsayed #democracy #jewish #midterms

Businesses have responsibilities – rewarding workers, reducing emissions, respecting communities. I’m calling on them to work with government in our national mission, using their power, influence and resources to tackle the poison that is misogyny. lbc.co.uk/article/businesses…

opb.org/article/2026/09/08/p… Amazingly, a system designed to elect fringe candidates that would never be able to get a majority in a two-person runoff is working exactly as designed.

One of the more amusing political types on Portland Bluesky had this to say: "blue cities/states need to build a metric fuckton more homes to make room for those who want to live somewhere they can raise a trans kid, get an abortion, live in a hospitable climate. If we don’t make room for all the new neighbors we clearly aren’t as welcoming as our lawn signs suggest" bsky.app/profile/amb.fyi/pos… These types think that a vast wave of people would quickly move to Portland, if only there was housing for them. In reality, new housing construction in Portland is near-zero (because building new housing in Portland doesn't pencil out); and California has had domestic net outmigration for decades, despite having the world's best climate. Terrible governance has consequences.
