A recent study on the ultraluminous X-ray pulsar (ULXP) RX J0209.6-7427 estimated its surface magnetic field strength to be between 2.4 and 4 × 10^13 Gauss. ➡️: arxiv.org/abs/2505.20248

Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered pulsars (manifesting as periodic “scruff” on the chart records) nearly six decades ago (28th Nov 1967) as a graduate student in radio astronomy at Cambridge. youtube.com/watch?v=PKtnaTxL…

#OTD in 1967, Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered pulsars, the rapidly spinning cores of dead stars that emit pulses of light with ultraprecise timing. Decades later, we’re still learning about what matter is like under such extreme conditions: go.nasa.gov/4ljxtCn

Today, in 1967, the first pulsating radio source (pulsar) was detected by an alert graduate student, Jocelyn Bell, then working under the direction of Prof. Anthony Hewish at the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory, Cambridge, England.

Initial results from IXPE (NASA/ASI mission) leverage the power of X-ray polarimetry to constrain the accretion geometry in X-ray pulsar Her X-1. The results also indicate a misalignment of the spin, magnetic & orbital axes. @doroshv3, Poutanen et al.: nature.com/articles/s41550-0…
