For anyone curious about what it actually looked like to kill a generation of functioning cars, here’s an actual video from 2009 and brief explanation:
The dealer first replaces the oil with sodium silicate solution. It’s a clear-ish liquid that crystallizes under extreme heat. As the engine warms up the solution begins to form small abrasive crystals in the oil system that shred the bearing and score the cylinder walls.
Within seconds of starting the car you can see smoke billowing from the exhaust, this is the crystals scratching the cylinder walls and leaving small grooves for oil and solution to leak past into the combustion chamber and ignite/evaporate, producing the white smoke.
Pretty soon the entire crankcase is full of crystals and freshly shredded metal flakes, the engine seizes. It took about 40 seconds in this video. Some engines reportedly lasted up to 7 minutes, but all were destroyed. That strikes me as sort of sad in a way, like watching a great warrior slowly lose a heroic last stand.
Now, this is the part that gets insanely wasteful. These cars were sent to federally approved recycling facilities where they had 180 days to sell the non-engine parts before they were required to prove that they had shred the entire thing into scrap steel.
But, in talking to a guy who ran one such facility at the time, he typically just sent them straight to the crusher. The timeframes allotted weren’t long enough to dismantle all of the cars, and even if you could, the marginal prices of the parts was greatly diminished. You cannot sell 1000 transmissions when only 50 went bad that year, they became worthless.
So just like that, in order to increase prosperity and save the environment, 677,000 entire running cars and trucks were turned directly into rebar worth a few cents per pound.

15-year-old cars with 150,000 miles that should be selling for $3,000 are going for $15,000. It’s abominable. Pure destruction and thievery.

One of the dumbest fucking concepts I've ever heard is that raises are to keep up with inflation.
This was by a large consulting firm to a board of directors.
No dumb fucks, raises are to address employees becoming more knowledgeable and efficient at their jobs. Its supposed to be IN EXCESS of inflation.

I'm a libertarian because I have this crazy (really, really crazy) idea that it's not okay to steal other people's money or beat them up just to impose my own neat and tidy vision of an ideal world on peaceful adults who are simply minding their own business.

There are no separate trans rights, women's rights, or disability rights. There are individual rights, and they belong equally to everyone.
The problem arises when people confuse rights with entitlements, demanding special privileges or benefits that require violating someone else's rights.
Equal rights mean equal protection under the law, not different rights depending on which group you belong to.

This might be the wildest minimum wage statistic I've ever seen.
In 1971, the federal minimum wage was $1.60 per hour. Gold averaged $40.92 per ounce.
It took 26 hours of minimum-wage labor to earn an ounce of gold.
In 2025, the federal minimum wage was $7.25. Gold averaged $3,432 per ounce.
It took 473 hours of labor to earn that same ounce.
Your hourly wage increased 4.5× in dollars.
The amount of labor required to acquire gold increased 18.5×.
Measured in gold, the federal minimum wage lost approximately 95% of its value.
Fifty-four years of nominal wage increases, and one hour of work buys a fraction of the monetary asset it once did.

我发现男人一般都不会吃回头草，我有一个女同事，长得很漂亮。
结婚后她觉得老公不懂浪漫，就和老公坚决离了婚，嫁给了另一个男人。
她前夫我见过几次，是个老实本分的男人，话不多，不会说甜言蜜语，更不懂送花、制造惊喜那套浪漫把戏，但人实在，下班就回家，工资全上交，家里的家务、重活从不让她插手，她想吃什么、想要什么，只要开口，男人都会默默记在心里，转头就给她置办。
那时候同事总跟我们抱怨，说日子过得像白开水，一点滋味都没有，看着别的女人被老公宠着哄着，鲜花礼物不断，她心里越想越委屈，觉得自己长得不差，不该过这么平淡的日子。
任凭前夫怎么挽留，怎么保证以后学着浪漫，她都铁了心要离，说跟这样的木头人过一辈子，太憋屈。
离婚后没多久，她就认识了现在的老公，这个男人嘴甜会来事，刚在一起时，天天给她送花、送礼物，下班接她下班，甜言蜜语挂在嘴边，把她哄得开开心心，她觉得这才是自己想要的爱情，很快就再婚了。
可再婚的日子，远没有她想的美好。这个男人看似浪漫，却没什么责任心，工资自己拿着，从不交给她，家里的开销大多要她来承担，下班回家就玩手机、打游戏，家务一点不沾，连瓶水都懒得倒。
浪漫都是一时的，过了新鲜劲，甜言蜜语没了，取而代之的是敷衍和不耐烦，她稍微抱怨几句，男人就嫌她事多，跟她吵架，日子过得鸡飞狗跳，远不如从前安稳。
没过多久，她就开始后悔了，常常跟我们念叨前夫的好，说以前不懂珍惜，觉得平淡不好，现在才知道，踏实过日子比什么都重要。

他不是没爱过，只是当初被伤透了心，既然她坚决要走，他便不会再回头，男人的感情大多这样，爱的时候真心实意，一旦放下，就再也不会回头吃回头草。
同事看着前夫如今的生活，再看看自己一团糟的日子，整天唉声叹气，脸上再也没了往日的光彩。她总说自己悔不当初，为了虚无缥缈的浪漫，丢了真心待自己的人，可世上哪有后悔药，错过了就是错过了。
其实日子过到最后，都是柴米油盐的平淡，浪漫终究是锦上添花，靠谱的真心才是最珍贵的。只是很多人明白这个道理的时候，往往已经失去了最珍贵的人
