Once the sun goes down, take a walk from the sidewalk to your front door. If you have trouble seeing a step, decoration or extension cord, imagine trying to spot it through a Halloween mask. 🎃

You know that extra hour of sleep we get when the clocks fall back this weekend? You probably don’t want to spend it listening to a smoke alarm chirp. Before Sunday, test every alarm in your home and replace any that are 10 years old or older.

Looking cool may be the kids’ top priority Saturday night. Being easy for drivers to see probably isn’t. Let them handle the costume. You add something bright or reflective that helps them stand out after dark.

What if I break a rib doing CPR? What if they're still breathing? Can I use an AED if they have a pacemaker? Those doubts can make you second-guess yourself when someone needs your help. And that's a pretty good reason to get some answers now. ▶️ rdcrss.org/3WMLW2N

Reaching a service member at sea? Helping with an emergency leave request? Connecting a military family with emergency financial assistance? Yep, the Hero Care Network can help with all of that and more: redcross.org/saf

Just a heads-up, Mississippi: We’re not getting much of a break from the fire danger. It’ll continue into early next week, so take a look at what that means for the next few days.

Most of us know enough first aid to handle the little things. It's the moments we don't see coming, like someone going into cardiac arrest, that can leave us unsure what to do. Keep expert guidance close with the free Red Cross First Aid app: redcross.org/apps

As you're wrapping up your day and heading home, keep in mind just how dry things are across our state right now. It wouldn't take much to start a fire, so please be extra mindful of anything that could cause a spark. Your local fire department will thank you.

Take a look around your yard before Hurricane Isaias arrives. Is there anything you wouldn’t want flying toward your house or a neighbor’s? Hopefully, none of it goes anywhere. But just in case, take a few minutes to secure anything that could.
