This is true. The reason why taxes are rising so high as a % of GDP is the freeze in income tax thresholds, an enormous new austerity burden.
But now the cause is the funding for the war drive, which this Unite leadership supports.
As I have been saying repeatedly in my meetings with the Prime Minister and the Chancellor, our members wanted two things from this budget: money in their pockets now, and a plan for investment and jobs.
Whilst there is some welcome news in this budget – including relief on energy bills and some investment in jobs – these are baby steps rather than a decisive leap forward.
The noose around the neck of wages, in the shape of frozen tax thresholds, must be dealt with. Started by the Tories in 2022, it is dragging workers into unfair tax bands and reducing disposable income. This cannot continue.’
This was the government’s first big chance to show real tangible change. The window to win back the working class will not stay open for long.

The Budget confirms that £4.7 billion of the government’s £15 billion defence investment funding requirement will be met through the reprioritisation of capital budgets and the Treasury’s capital reserve.
Of this, £3 billion will come from a further one per cent reduction in departmental capital budgets between 2027–28 and 2029–30.
This means the government is explicitly redirecting resources away from other, useful investment priorities to meet its military spending commitments.

Healey continued the Hunt/Reeves policy of freezing income tax thresholds, which claws back more money from workers' pay when they are trying to keep pace with inflation.
We are also soon going to get cuts to benefits for NEETs and cuts to PIP payments.
It is clearly more #austerity.

Tories accuse Labour of a do-nothing Budget. But a lot of austerity is already baked in, with freezing income tax thresholds again the biggest.
And worse to come in the pipeline, with cuts in PIP payments, and cuts to support NEETs published next months, and the pensions triple-lock to be scrapped.
All this when real household disposable income is set to fall, as OBR forecasts.
But arms manufacturers will be better off - Healey found an extra £3bn for them.

We have to start talking about a different kind of society, because every single penny that’s going on defence, that’s killing people around the world, is impoverishing us here at home.

The names of those who will take over power remain largely unknown, despite the huge parliamentary majority they command.
At this point, it is difficult to offer a full forecast, but one thing is clear: disappointments are still to come, for one side or another, perhaps for everyone.

There have been 26 Israeli general elections since the Naqba.
Not once have they produced a government which is willing to treat Palestinians as people, let alone as equals. Instead it has been misery piled on injustice.
There is zero reason to believe today's elections will be any different.
#Israel has committed war crimes & crimes against humanity in the Occupied #Palestinian Territory amid continuing #genocide in Gaza, the @UN Commission of Inquiry on Occupied Palestinian Territory & Israel said in a new report to #UNGA81 today.

Much to learn from this excellent interview that uncovers the subtlety and nuance of AnsraAllah policy.
In his latest interview with Max Blumenthal, senior Ansarallah political bureau member Muhammad Al-Bukhaiti insists the Yemeni Armed Forces are not just battling Saudi Arabia, but an unjust world order that allows powerful nations to besiege the weak:
"Our operations against Saudi Arabia are aimed at reaching a just peace to safeguard the freedom of navigation for all.
The US and its allies...are the ones that trample on the right of navigation.
America enacted an oppressive blockade against Venezuela to steal its energy resources.
America is also enacting an oppressive blockade against Cuba to blackmail its government.
And the Saudis are the ones imposing a naval blockade on Yemen.
So our military operations are focused on the Saudis to force them to accept a just peace, to force them to respect all peoples' navigation rights."

This is a 30 minute TV programme Shenzhen TV did on my visit there and analysis of its development in the context of China's economy. The commentary is in Chinese but the interview parts are in English and I think the video recordings of robots, advanced Chinese car production at the BYD headquarters, and others, speak for themselves, and convey an accurate impression of modern China, simply as moving images even if the commentary is not understood. sztv.com.cn/ysz/dsdb/szws/js…
