Cutting ‘red tape’ is nothing but a red herring – and arguably counterproductive. Blaming a moribund economy on too many rules is a hackneyed neoliberal trope – UK needs smarter regulation, not less regulation. theguardian.com/business/202…

Could further English devolution affect Scotland’s funding? Probably not. The devolution to English regions already happens to the Scottish Parliament, if not below that. Only matters if he increases funding, rather than just moves the cash around. fraserofallander.org/uk-budg…

Migration rates to the UK are falling. That might sound politically advantageous for a government that is trying to show it has immigration under control, but it could in fact spell £7 billion of economic trouble for the upcoming Budget. blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandp…

PCS retired members’ chair Sandra Durkin spoke about the Capita pensions crisis for the Insource Now! campaign video today. She was brilliant, explaining the impact on members and why bringing services back in-house matters. She was joined by workers from UNISON and RMT to help make the case for insourcing. The giant cheque represents £6 billion in profits for outsourcing companies from government contracts. Public money that should support services, workers, and the people who rely on them. #InsourceNow

Kevin’s review of the new biography of Jimmy Reid. Many will not agree with some of his comments, but he is surely right to say, “The Scottish left needs more of Jimmy Reid’s values, and Brian McGeachan’s book demonstrates this superbly.” heraldscotland.com/politics/…

Extending the Fuel Duty freeze should not be a Budget priority. It is not well targeted (higher-income households spend more proportionally on petrol) and fuel costs are still below historic highs. At a time of constrained public finances, regular fixed increases would be a more credible policy 👇

Blair was unusual only in admitting his frustration but typical of politicians who support FoI in opposition and curse it in office - of all parties. Only have to look at extent to which Scottish Govt goes about trying to avoid transparency. They all do.
