Three modest but worthwhile measures on banks gambling and online VAT, but savings from the working age welfare budget are possible, but would require upfront spending to help people into work. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c65y…

PCS retired members’ chair Sandra Durkin spoke about the Capita pensions crisis for the Insource Now! campaign video today. She was brilliant, explaining the impact on members and why bringing services back in-house matters. She was joined by workers from UNISON and RMT to help make the case for insourcing. The giant cheque represents £6 billion in profits for outsourcing companies from government contracts. Public money that should support services, workers, and the people who rely on them. #InsourceNow

Extending the Fuel Duty freeze should not be a Budget priority. It is not well targeted (higher-income households spend more proportionally on petrol) and fuel costs are still below historic highs. At a time of constrained public finances, regular fixed increases would be a more credible policy 👇

Blair was unusual only in admitting his frustration but typical of politicians who support FoI in opposition and curse it in office - of all parties. Only have to look at extent to which Scottish Govt goes about trying to avoid transparency. They all do.
Replying to @ProfJMitchell
Blair on himself agreeing to FoI in Memoir, 'You idiot. You naive, foolish, irresponsible nincompoop. There is really no description of stupidity, no matter how vivid, that is adequate. I quake at the imbecility of it.'

Royal Mail's continued failure to accept reality has damaged services, demoralised workers, and let down the country. Postal workers and communities need government intervention to save this vital public service.

Scotland's manufacturing workforce are being let down by employers with no conscience and governments with no clue. We need an industrial strategy that protects jobs, rebuilds communities and reindustrialises our nation for the benefit of people, not profiteers.
Scotland can't continue to haemorrhage manufacturing jobs. The decision by both Resideo and Honeywell to close the joint site, and to transfer the work out of Scotland is unforgivable. Govt needs to intervene & ministers must protect jobs & communities. news.stv.tv/west-central/mor…

A fantastic launch of the #RightToFoodCommission in Parliament, bringing together commissioners, parliamentarians, trade unions, campaigners and the communities at the heart of this fight. It has been one of the honours of my life to listen to communities across the country and work alongside people determined to end the scourge of hunger. In one of the richest countries in the world, nobody should be worried about where their next meal is coming from. Now we need Government action. A Right to Food enshrined in law, ensuring everyone can access affordable, nutritious food with dignity. Our communities cannot carry on paying the price for political decisions that drive poverty and food insecurity. Hunger is a political choice. Together, we must demand a different future. #RightToFood #HungerIsAPoliticalChoice
