Consider yourself called upon to act.
The Book of Mormon is a great witness that the Lord loves all people and reaches out to all, everywhere. The Book of Mormon adds to our knowledge of how our Savior’s earthly ministry reached out to all of His scattered flock. Book of Mormon teachings contradict the erroneous assertion that the grace of God saves only a chosen few. The Book of Mormon teaches that our Savior "inviteth ... all to come unto him" (2 Nephi 26:33). His grace is for all. Similarly, the Book of Mormon tells us that the children of God in “every nation” have His promise that He “manifesteth himself unto all those who believe in him, by the power of the Holy Ghost” (2 Nephi 26:13). These promises from the Book of Mormon are true. I call upon all to act on these truths and to share them with others, that we may all draw closer to Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Excellent food for thought! I consider it very likely that we were presented at least the highlights of our impending challenges before we were born—the things, perhaps, that would not change based on any future decisions, such as disabilities, family trauma, illnesses or afflictions that would be unavoidable. Very possibly, we agreed to live that life. But as children of God with individual agency and knowledge of good and evil, our moment-by-moment choices would also change our course and alter our personal challenges. This life has a code. When we enter the world, we plug in to a system that reads our blueprint, recognizes our weaknesses, and formulates (by our choices) the kind of challenges that will teach us what we need to learn in order to make progress as eternal beings. If we rise to those challenges, our weaknesses are made strengths, and those strengths level us up more quickly. If we resist those challenges, run away, or fail to learn, we suffer more, stay weak, and take longer to learn. Sometimes we repeat the cycles until finally figuring it out, and that takes longer. Regardless, all those little challenges, however long they take, will last exactly as long as needed for us personally. It’s a perfect code. That’s how I see it.
In the premortal life, do we choose the type of challenges we face in this life? What are your thoughts?

P.S. We do choose certain challenges—we can choose what we want to become and what we want to conquer. We may be inept at something and accept the challenge of become adept, no matter how long it takes. Some talents were gifted us from the pre-mortal world and others we adopt by accepting the challenges to attain them. To accept hard things and do them for a greater reward is to choose the challenge, to create and shape who we become.

When has a friend, teacher, family member, or another person in your life been an example of a light on the hill to you? The Savior has invited us to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). I love meeting disciples of Jesus Christ around the world. You reflect the Savior’s light in your countenance and inspire more people than you may ever know. I look forward to being with our exceptional disciples of Christ across the globe at the Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults on November 1 and discussing how we can center our thoughts on Jesus Christ and His hopeful, ever-shining light.

Few truths bring greater hope, comfort, and joy than the knowledge that families can be together forever. This is at the heart of our Heavenly Father's plan of happiness.

Kristen and I spent a few moments with our available family members following general conference earlier this month. How grateful I am that meaningful relationships such as these can be eternal.

“It is in the accepting of our lot and moving forward with what the Lord has asked of us that we discover that the Holy Ghost enjoys our company, angels feel constrained to join us, and the heavens open to our vision.” —Joseph Fielding McConkie Accepting our lot in life and moving forward with God’s will allows us to discover that the Holy Ghost enjoys our company and angels feel constrained to join us. I never really thought about the Holy Ghost actually enjoying being with me, did you? I always kind of pictured an exasperated guardian frustrated by my inability to hear Him and follow directions. 😂 That He enjoys my company—I find that very comforting. Heavenly Father loves us. Jesus Christ loves us. And the Holy Ghost loves us too. We might even suppose He loves us enough to have made His own kind of sacrifice—to be pure spirit, therefore capable of dwelling with everyone on earth who will have Him. That’s love. I really think that’s His love for you and me. A bit of food for thought on the Sabbath.

Do others starve for salvation while you feast? Open the door. Do you starve for the Savior and His doctrine? Come to the table. When Jesus Christ returns, let Him find us calling one another. Let Him find us answering the call of His messengers. Let Him find us fleeing out of Babylon and pressing forward up Mount Zion. Let Him find us loving and lifting and testifying and repenting—let Him find us doing His work. It’s said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” How small-minded we are. Be the change He wants to see. Be the change that He commands you to be, fearless in His service because you know that He is able to do His work. He will do it Himself, and He will do it with your hands. Follow Him.
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invite each other and all men and women everywhere to “come unto Christ.” As a prophet has told us in the Book of Mormon: “I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption” (Omni 1:26).

The messages of this conference and the Spirit of the Lord have inspired all of us to consecrate our worship, focus our learning, and unite our testimonies on the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Father’s plan for our eternal increase and joy.     As we look forward, we welcome the world, in person or virtually, to the Salt Lake Temple Celebration. On April 5, 2027, the temple doors will open to the public—the first such opening since 1893.    #GeneralConference

Teach Truth with Love: It takes courage to stand for truth. It takes even more courage to stand for truth with love. When we try to love others by minimizing God’s laws, we separate ourselves from the one person who loves them the very most. The Savior showed love for the woman taken in adultery. But he also charged her to “go, and sin no more” (John 8:11). For disciples of Jesus Christ, truth and love always walk together. I believe teaching truth with love will be the hallmark of Christ’s disciples in the last days. For some this will require greater conviction. For others it will demand greater charity. I know the Lord will help us as we strive to teach truth with love. #GeneralConference Artwork: Jesus and the Adultress © GoodSalt.

The covenants and ordinances of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ are spiritual credentials that can open wide the heavenly windows of opportunity to receive in our lives divine purpose, direction, and strength. They provide the opportunity for promised blessings, which require ongoing faithfulness. The Holy Ghost is also described in scripture as the Holy Spirit of Promise who ratifies or confirms as acceptable to God the righteous acts of His children. Thus, ordinances and covenants must be sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise to be binding on earth and in heaven. Just as you need an authorized stamp on a passport to enter a foreign country, so each of us needs the verifying witness of the Holy Spirit of Promise in order for us to receive the eternal blessings associated with the covenants and ordinances of the Savior’s gospel. Receiving this ratifying sealing by the Holy Ghost typically is not a one-time event; rather, it comes over time as we repent sincerely and consistently, honor our covenants, and yield our hearts unto God. Each of us should ever be grateful for sacred opportunities to “walk in all the ordinances of the Lord” (Doctrine and Covenants 136:4) and to receive by the Holy Spirit of Promise, “in process of time,” (Moses 7:21) the ratifying seal that guarantees all promised blessings. #GeneralConference

We don’t have time to despair. Our prayers uplift the prophets. ❤️
As your president, I pray for what our Heavenly Father wants for each of us—to be active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, proceeding forward on the covenant path into the eternities.

We need one another’s prayers. I feel the positive effect of your prayers. I am thankful, and I love you.

It has always taken spiritual courage, born of faith in Jesus Christ, to be His disciple. In my responsibilities in traveling throughout the earth, I am so impressed with the remarkable disciples I meet. It is our faith in Jesus Christ that gives us the courage to minister to others, live the word of wisdom, keep the law of chastity, honor the Sabbath Day, be honest in our tithing and to trust in our Father and His Son when unforeseen illness, financial troubles, or natural disaster upend our life. I promise you that as you strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ by believing and following Him, and keeping His commandments, your answers will come, your spiritual power will increase, and your courage in Christ will define your character. #GeneralConference

Lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ best reflect the Savior’s teaching and direction when they joyfully live lives of integrity and virtue. The virtuous Christlike life necessary to sustain us and propel us along the covenant path has never been more important or challenging. What we are seeing in society and social media today is conduct and language that is often coarse and crude and lacks virtue. Any use of the internet to bully, destroy a reputation, or place a person in a bad light is reprehensible. It is clear, evil communications are not just a matter of bad manners. If practiced by Latter-day Saints, they can adversely affect others who do not have a knowledge of God or a testimony of our Savior. We cannot control the conduct of others, but we can strive to be a peaceable people who live in accordance with the Christlike conduct and virtues taught by our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Lord wants us to experience the joy of a virtuous life. He provides us with many beautiful gifts both physical and spiritual. Those who make sacrifices in His name will be richly rewarded. #GeneralConference "Road to Emmaus" by Wendy Keller Image courtesy of Havenlight
