This clip is from a hearing over the ballot warning for IP26-645, the initiative to repeal Washington’s new income tax. State law requires the government’s disclosure to be neutral.
Instead of applying that standard, Judge Chris Lanese argued that tax-cut initiatives are themselves “not neutral,” warned of a “downward regressive spiral” and blamed budget gaps on people who don’t want to pay taxes.
Almost every premise was wrong. IP26-645 cuts no appropriation, and the tax produces no revenue until 2029. Washington spending is up 55% after population and inflation, and lawmakers just passed the two largest tax increases in state history.
Lanese admitted “there’s no direct cut,” then defended the PIID because it forces voters to consider spending cuts.
A judge reviewing a neutrality law should apply the law, not use the bench to repeat inaccurate tax-and-spending talking points. This was biased, uninformed, and embarrassing. #waleg

Just after Washington State voted to approve a 9.9% "millionaire tax" on personal income over $1 million, Jeff Bezos, Howard Schultz, and tons fled. The impacts will be ENORMOUS. I gathered the facts, stories, and data and made this mini documentary: youtu.be/9Vg0-7c0J3g
FLEEING FOR FLORIDA: Starbucks founder Howard Schultz announces he’s leaving his longtime home of Seattle and moving to Florida, as Washington state Democrats slam business owners with a brand-new income tax.
The billionaire coffee mogul is ditching the Pacific Northwest after 44 years to start a "next adventure" in the tax-friendly Sunshine State.
Schultz joins a growing number of business leaders and wealthy residents abandoning blue states for new homes in red states like Florida. @foxbusiness

The good news: Washington's snowpack jumped up to 66% of normal for this date
The bad news: 50-degree temperatures in the mountains will quickly turn that into flooding.
Thank God the state is using the CO2 tax to fund flood control.

This just in 🚨🚨Every House Democrat just voted AGAINST tabling the income tax. Next time a Democrat Representative claims they didn’t support it, just know that every one of them is now complicit in moving forward an illegal income tax.

Go Ahead WA Dems, Keep Pretending Capital Flight is Make Believe:
I know, Pie Crust Pedersen and his friends tell you no one really leaves because of taxes while arguing in favor of the income tax. (And of course use the exact opposite argument in rolling back the estate tax.)
So, I've been collecting some real time data. Above and beyond the emails and texts of people telling me and others about the latest person who packed up and left, here's some other evidence.
Last Thursday, I had dinner with Gov. Brad Little of Idaho. We own an outlet and a good piece of property there we'd like to develop. Upon introducing myself and my home of WA, he laughed and stated, "You know, I used to offer tax incentives to get WA businesses to move to ID. We quit doing that the last few years. Honestly, I wish you guys would quit doing so many dumb things. We're running out of room!" He was very happy to hear we're looking develop our property and going to expand our location.
This morning, I had a call with Gov Gianforte of MT. When I mentioned how much we love visiting MT, he offered to put his head of econ development in touch to look at informing me on all they're working on there. He mentioned a larger, unnamed WA based company with significant employee base they think will be moving there soon. "Steve, there's a lot of people and businesses from WA coming here."
For the last 40 years our family has spent time down in Arizona as a getaway during the long winters in WA. We know a significant home developer here and were visiting with one of his associates that sells higher end homes. He volunteered that they have been flooded with calls from WA residents of late, and of their last 10 large deals, 8 were WA refugees moving to AZ for good.
Also connected with a family that owned and operated a biz in the south sound for over 100 years. Most of them moved out of state soon after selling the biz a few years ago. They are actively in the process of pulling any of the family resources (which are substantial) to any state but WA. Instead of building and investing in their long time home, they are reluctantly leaving to put those resources to work elsewhere for the next 100 years.
You'd have to be drunk to not realize what's going on. Yes, other states have income taxes, corporate income taxes, etc. But they're all LOWERING taxes, not raising or adding massive new categories on top of the current tax regime.
And in the last week, I've had more conversations with Governors of states where I don't live, than the sum total of conversations I've ever had with every WA governor. To them, I've been a checkbook and "villain" not paying my fair share. I'd be fine being left alone, but your malice for the economic builders of our state is ultimately going to destroy it. I'm going to keep fighting, but given all the failure, you have to ask what the hell we're paying for anyway.

Washington loses one taxpayer every 30 minutes.
A new study ranks Washington among the top states losing taxpayers most often on net to other states. The study used IRS data between 2021 and 2022, long before state Democrats enacted a record-shattering $9.2 billion in new taxes during the 2025 legislative session, exacerbating Washington’s affordability crisis.
Now legislative Democrats are moving forward with new income tax proposals, including a new tax on wage earners modeled after Seattle’s JumpStart tax.
House Republicans continue to oppose new taxes and offer solutions that would make life more affordable.

On the heels of passing the largest tax increase in Washington state history, legislative Democrats are once again looking to taxes to fill the budget gap.
Their latest proposal is a “payroll excise tax” on wage earners (i.e. an income tax) – an idea modeled after Seattle’s JumpStart tax.

Tim Walz is 100% responsible for massive fraud in Minnesota. We let Tim Walz know of fraud early on, hoping for a partnership in stopping fraud but no, we got the opposite response. Tim Walz systematically retaliated against whistleblowers using monitoring, threats, repression, and did his best to discredit fraud reports. Instead of partnership, we got the full weight of retaliation by Tim Walz, certain DFL members and an indifferent mainstream media. It’s scary, isolating and left us wondering who we can turn to.
In addition to retaliating against whistleblower, Tim Walz disempowered the Office of the Legislative Auditor, allowing agencies to disregard their audit findings and guidance. Media and politicians supporting Tim Walz or the DFL-agenda attacked whistleblowers who were trying to raise red flags on fraudulent activities.
This is a cascade of systemic failures leading up to Tim Walz. Agency leaders appointed by Tim Walz willfully disregarded rules and laws to keep fraud reports quiet - even to the extent of threatening families of whistleblowers. These same leaders are not qualified for their jobs, instead getting leadership jobs via Tim Walz’s friendship so state government were left floundering. DFL lawmakers refused to acknowledge fraud and deflected any serious conversation to stop fraud. Biased mainstream media such as WCCO and MPR showed absolutely no interest in covering fraud happening in our own state. Programs, especially in behavioral health and disability services were built without any guardrails against fraud, all in an attempt to extract more funding from legislature and the federal government.
As staff, we firsthand witnessed and observed fraud happening yet we were shutdown, reassigned and told to keep quiet. Sometimes more. Leadership did not want to appear to discriminate against certain communities and were unwilling to take action, such as stopping fraud, that would have an adverse impact on their image. To date, no single agency leader has been held responsible for their role in fraud whether it’s Shireen Gandhi, Jess Geil, Jodi Harpstead, Natasha Merz, Eric Grumdahl or others.
It is a structure created and maintained by Tim Walz who has created an environment of inter-related agencies and institutions including the media - that help foster fraud through retaliation and turning a blind eye in exchange for political gain in the form of high power agency leadership jobs or other perks.
Fundamentally, Tim Walz is dishonest, lacks ethics and integrity, has poor leadership abilities, and has never taken any accountability for his role in fraud. Instead, Tim Walz deflects by blaming national politics for his own failings and distracts the public with inveterate lying. These lies include his reference of a budget surplus under his tenure. Fact is, Minnesota never had a surplus, we had been given federal ARPA funds that were conflated as surplus money otherwise, we’d be in a deficit. And those ARPA funds, which were meant to be temporary funds were used to create more leadership positions for Tim Walz “buddies.”
As such, we can’t fight fraud in Minnesota alone hence why we’re appealing to the federal levels of government. We need all the help we can get as Tim Walz’s agency leaders have upped their brazen approach in covering up their knowledge of fraud.
We are grateful to numerous solid politicians (esp the Fraud Committee) and media outlets who are trying to halt fraud. We are also grateful to other whistleblowers who are bravely stepping up.
Thank You NY Times for bringing the plight of Minnesota to the national stage.
