They were terrified of Rhodey's suggestion to eliminate baby Thanos, but had zero hesitation stealing Pym Particles, stripping ancient timelines of their only defensive Infinity Stones, and leaving alternate branches completely vulnerable to cosmic disaster.
Rhodey's proposal wasn't insane; it was just honest about the blood they were already willing to spill to get their own families back. The team didn't hate the brutality; they hated that he said the quiet part out loud without wrapping it in an inspiring speech.
