The key factor to all of masculinity is the concept of “mastery”. Mastery of self, mastery of skills, mastery of relationships, mastery of all aspects of life as a male. That’s the revelation.

Should you “man up”? If you understand that “Man up” really just means to get a grip and master the situation, then yes.
Denying emotions is not mastery. Avoidance is not mastery. Failing in health is not mastery. Bitching and whining is not mastery. Having poor social skills is not mastery. Being a dick on Twitter is not mastery.
If the behavior is toxic, the person has failed at mastery of something and is not being masculine, at least in that particular area of life. Toxicity is not masculine.
Nowadays, everybody has heard this:
“You create your own reality.”
Most people missed this:
“Your point of power exists in the present.”
Your past is not an archaeological dig to be excavated, a hole to climb out of. It’s the reason for lack of power. It needs to be left alone.

Reality sucks.
Here's the plot:
You have one guy working construction in the summer heat and winter cold. 12 hour days. 6 days a week. Working his ass off to get ahead.
On the other end of the spectrum you have some fat lazy slob sitting in his basement eating cheetos and playing video games all day.
The left wants to take money (more and more every year) from the construction worker and give it to the slob so that we have equality.
Everyone should be equal in the left's ideology. But not everyone is contributing equally. Most people if given the chance will choose to sit on the couch and sponge off of someone else's hard work.
This is the fundamental flaw with socialism. It fails to account for basic human nature. The fact that most humans will opt for the easiest path in life.
Liberal politicians know this, but the also know most people like the sound of "free" or "equality" and so it's easy to push these failed policies to get votes.
Eventually what happens is the construction worker gets fed up working his ass off and watching the government take more and more of his paycheck to give to the slob. That's the point the construction worker decides he might as well join the party and sit on the couch too and let someone else pay his way through life.
Eventually you end up with everyone sitting on the couch.
At that point the government has to become authoritarian to get anyone to produce anything. And this is how socialism has killed 100 million people throughout history.
Not every man is “burdened with Glorious Purpose”, but every man at least has a minimal purpose of being a competent man. To borrow a relatively famous quote:
“Most purpose is more burden than glory. But trust me you never want to be the guy who avoids it, cause you can’t live with the burden.”
Ideally, your complementary opposite, the yin to your yang, is the reward that lets you live with the burden. No need to grow scar tissue.

Those who resist the importance of masculine competence don’t understand the connection between the burden of being a man and the relief of being loved by a good woman and his children.
You cannot have a refuge to remove your armor and be tended to by a nurturing woman who adores you, if you have no reason to put it on in the first place.
The cruelest way to destroy a man is to deny him his purpose (glorious or not.)
