A new randomised trial just published in The Lancet Healthy Longevity looked at 1,160 people aged 75 and over with no previous heart attack or stroke.
Half stopped their statins. Half kept taking them.
Within three months, LDL cholesterol jumped nearly 49% in the group that stopped (from about 115 to 171 mg/dL).
Yet over roughly three years, researchers found no statistically significant increase in heart attacks or strokes among those who discontinued the drugs.
Mortality was actually slightly lower in the group that stopped (7.2% vs 7.9%).
If the “bad” cholesterol shoots up and the heart attacks and strokes don’t, how much benefit are many older people actually getting from lifelong statin use?
How many people in their late 70s and 80s are still being told they must stay on these drugs for life - with the side effects - when the evidence for continued benefit in this group is this weak?
Would you want your parent or grandparent reassessed, or just kept on the prescription forever?

What they called "tribes" were, frequently, nations.
The word choice was precise and deliberate.
"Tribe" suggests pre-political. Primitive. Blood-based. Pre-rational. The kind of social organization that exists before real civilization begins.
"Nation" suggests sovereignty. History. Law. The kind of social organization that has rights.
You cannot colonize a nation without committing a crime that demands accounting.
You can "pacify" a tribe. You can "administer" a tribe. You can "protect" a tribe from itself.
The same Zulu Kingdom that had its own legal tradition, its own military strategy sophisticated enough to defeat British forces at Isandlwana, its own diplomatic history, was a "tribe."
The same Asante Empire that controlled extensive gold trade networks, developed complex political institutions, and produced remarkable artistic traditions was dismissed as a mere "tribe."
The word did the work before the soldiers arrived.
Call it a "tribe" first.
Then the conquest is "administration."
Then the destruction of its institutions is "modernization."
Then the theft of its resources is "development."
Language is the first colonial tool.
It was used here with full awareness of what it was doing.

I can't get over what a massive admission this is. If we lived in a world where politicians and media cared about facts, THIS would be the headline story. "ANTI-ISRAEL ATTITUDES INCREASING, ZERO INCREASE IN ANTISEMITISM."
The pro-Palestine movement has been so successful in separating opposition to Israeli atrocities from hatred toward Jews that there has been zero increase in public hatred toward Jews throughout three years of genocide. That's an incredibly impressive achievement in activism and education regarding a mass atrocity we're always told is a super duper complicated issue that's almost impossible to understand.
This one fact, by itself, completely destroys just about every argument the hasbarists have ever made about the pro-Palestine movement. People who've been taking a stand against the Gaza holocaust have been absolutely impeccable with their messaging, taking great care to help the public understand the distinction between the religion of Judaism and the apartheid state of Israel.
If mainstream pundits and politicians actually cared about truth and morality, they would be falling all over themselves to apologize and correct the record on the narrative they've been pushing that the pro-Palestine movement is responsible for a surging epidemic of antisemitism in our society. They would be telling everyone that it turns out there is in fact no epidemic of antisemitism, and the pro-Palestine movement has conducted itself with saintly meticulousness in ensuring that hatred toward the Jewish faith gains no purchase within their ranks or their message.
But mainstream pundits and politicians do not care about truth or morality. They care about promoting the interests of a genocidal apartheid state, no matter how many lies they need to tell in order to do so.
This is why instead of seeing headlines about the Bell review's finding that there has been zero increase of antisemitism among British people, we've been seeing headlines falsely claiming that British schoolchildren are evil antisemitic Nazis who must be brought to heel.
People who support Israel are disgusting, manipulative liars, and the western political/media class are the very worst among them.

The Russian satellite "Kosmos 2612" and the Western satellite ICEYE-X36 (which provides military support to Ukraine) are now in perfect synchronization with one another. The Russian military satellite is intentionally tailing and tracking the Western radar satellite. Maintaining this "bumper-to-bumper" formation allows Russia to intercept or jam data transmissions, physically inspect Western technology, or rapidly execute a kinetic or other anti-satellite (ASAT) attack with minimal warning and minimal fuel expenditure.
"Kosmos 2612" has performed a series of high-precision, fuel-intensive maneuvers to achieve a "coplanar" orbit—matching the exact altitude (~555 km), speed, and inclination (~97.8°) of the ICEYE-X36. The ICEYE-X36 satellite continues its efforts to provide support to Ukraine, though it now faces significant interference.

And from it came the Declaration of the Rights of Man, the document whose principles are now treated as the bedrock of the very civilization you are defending.
So I’ll ask you directly:
At what point did the vandalism become force?
At what point did the thugs become founders?
Because the transformation happened.
It happens in every revolution that succeeds.
And it never happens for the ones that fail or the ones that threaten the wrong people.
That’s not a distinction between force and vandalism.
That’s a distinction between winners and losers dressed up as a moral category.
