At the mountaintop, to the surprise of nobody #1 is @Prismaticismism
This historic year for Prismat has been 10 years in the making. He has searched for and grinded tons of different games since the Heroes Global Championship was shut down leaving pro players lost for what to do next. Each game Pris dominated but no competitive scene arrived and Pris would be forced to keep searching for the next thing to compete in.
Finally Riftbound is here and not only is Pris dominating, he’s doing so in a fashion rarely seen in the TCG genre. He has reached the Top 8 in eight of his twelve events, won two RQs and had his worst placement as Houston at 50th.
The consistency and dominance across multiple formats, multiple decks is something unlikely to be repeated as the game grows and more and more players are able to compete at the top level, and likely will hold on in history as the best single year performance for a very long time.
It’s at the point where betting on Pris to Top 8 would be the Odds-on Favorite which is not something that generally can’t exist in TCGs due to the amount of variance inherent to card games.
Watching Prismat's journey has been a joy for me, as someone who has known him since the heroes days getting to see him blossom in the limelight while staying true to his goofy personality and his champion mentality it's incredible. If you ask Pris what happened in a game that happened one round ago, one day ago, one weekend ago, one set ago, he may respond with the entire crux of the game turn by turn with all the actions taken. He is hypercritical of himself and is obsessed with playing his games perfect with no misplays, and he’ll always tell you if he thinks he made one.
That is the mindset that makes him great. His ability to recount the games with such clarity combined with the drive to correct any and all errors he makes and having the knowledge and mentality to always focus on self and what he can fix has led to Prismat becoming one of the greatest card gamers of our generation and we’re only in the first year.
For the RC, Prismat will have to show that he can take yet another Legend to the top. Preparing with DSG will amplify his talents by making sure he’s pushed in testing to find all the errors and correct them before these life changing events.
I have him as Odds-On favorite to Top 8 once more, even into such an intense field of crushers and a metagame that is unforgiving and provides little edge in deckbuilding, everytime he sits down at the table you just feel like he’s going to win and I’m not surprised if he does yet again.
At #2 I have @SquirtleRFT
The lingering question with Squirtle is what if. What if he could have played all 12 events, how many would he have won, what would the stats have shown, how different are our best player conversations when we add that much more data?
For this list I did not want to hold the missed events against him entirely. The question I had was "will Squirtle deliver once he starts traveling?", and he answered that question instantly with his performances in both Singapore and LA. Proving that he was not going to slow down. One win can be accomplished by many, two is an anomaly, the consistency Squirtle showed in his 6 events he attended can not be denied.
After placing 22nd in his first RQ, his worst placement btw, Squirtle would immediately embark on the longest unbroken win streak of any player after finding his Legend in Azir. He took a Legend that was knocking on the door of the metagame and made it look unbeatable, and the stats support his unbeatable status with the highest win rate of any player by a large margin.
For the RC a new question arises. Can Squirtle replicate his dominance on a new Legend, or was this mastery of Azir one of a kind. He hadn’t needed to put down the emperor yet due to the best of system and a metagame that still felt solid for the list but now with all the pressure to win and a deck commanding 43% of the players including Squirtle to go that direction does he lose the edge of complete mastery of a Legend? Or was it never about the Legend, and Squirtle’s mastery was of Riftbound instead?
My gut says it was never just the relationship of player and Legend, but Squirtle just fundamentally understands Riftbound on a level that very few others currently can reach. The RC season is the time to prove it once more, to separate from the pack argued to be the best in the game with a statement victory at an RC.

K so I think I'm past the "honeymoon" phase of Riftbound and..
I'm still hopelessly addicted lmao.
TCGs have been working a part of my brain that was lying dormant for far too long.
I feel like a little kid whenever I go to Nexus Nights...
Wish I could play IRL everyday..😭
I understand pro's want the environment to be competitive and not skewed by a couple of decks, but it feels like this constant request for bans is starting to put a negative light on RB.
Game is insanely fun, for both collectors & players! Let's not over shadow that.
