Always a pleasure to co-lead Cemetery tours with @summerstown182. We’ve been sharing stories of amazing women we’ve found in the run up. Today the 66th anniversary of orchid artist Nelly Roberts’ death, we got to share women’s stories with fabulous group of people.
Thanks to everyone who made it along to lovely #LambethCemetery today which was looking immaculate for our ‘Women of Lambeth Cemetery’ Tour. Such a privilege to do this alongside the wonderful Tracey @RoadSw9 who has discovered so many of these stories

A couple of weeks ago I posted a video explaining why Loughborough Junction ended up where it did. This one looks at how LJ itself developed during the same period of time (about 1860-1900). colin-m.com/2024/10/31/video…

Since you all voted for Blue Plaques for Women in our 2020 poll, we are very pleased that four of your choices received an English Heritage blue plaque. Yesterday was the unveiling of a blue plaque for Olive Morris, a political activist, who lived on Railton Road, Brixton.

Because of the huge interest from visitors to our exhibition, Shakespeare in Lambeth, we have extended its run until Fri 6 December. As well as celebrating the return of the folios, "Shakespeare in Lambeth" explores the ways in which Shakespeare was performed the past 200 years.

Two weeks until our monthly author event, 12 Nov. Brilliant book, funny, moving, very engaging. Look forward to discussion with Iqbal. Walk-ins welcome, but advance booking helps librarians in setting out chairs. eventbrite.com/e/10463785955…

.@WNCemetery looking stunning in the autumn sun. Bumped into some of the lovely @fownc1837 people and found the graves of #musichall GH Macdermott, Pepper’s Ghost creator John Pepper and of course dropped by to see Cinquevalli.

Cormont Road school SE5 on the Top 10 list 2024. After much push back @thevicsoc and local campaigners will be getting a visit to see condition of outside of school soon. Still hopeful of getting full survey condition reports soon. New housing could be an option

Interesting. Theophilus Dunkley had his undertakers in Westminster Bridge Road and is buried in Lambeth Cemetery. Two branches of the same family business serving different parts of London ?
Henry Dunkley, Cemetery Stone & Marble Works, Stoke Newington High St next to Abney Park Cemetery. His name can be seen on many monuments in the cemetery, and not surprisingly he is buried in Abney Park near the funerary chapel along the footpath from the High St.

Amazing tour of @BartsHeritage work on restoration of the Great Hall and Hogarth paintings @NHSBartsHealth north wing. So worth it. Be another 100 years before you can get up close to that ceiling again. Book tour here bartsheritage.org.uk/restori…

Yes, without the Crystal Palace I think S London might have ended up with a quite different network. Easy to underestimate its impact on early development.

This video by @_LJ4D on the development of south London railways is amazing. Topography shaped routes but Crystal Palace seems have spurred climbing of hills @cpsubway
I've made a video that tries to explain why Loughborough Junction is where it is. It ended up being a history of the South London rail network as a whole. youtu.be/iIe3Jr1H4ZE
