This is one of my most treasured possessions, an evening bag belonging to my g-g aunt, Daisy Dormer. I know it went to a Water Rats Ball or 2. My sister & I used to have it as part of our dressing up box when we were little & it was woefully mistreated #mhvd2024 ⁦⁦ – at Camberwell, London

Dan led a celeb music hall cricket team for charity fundraising. They chose outlandish costumes like comic cops for example. The giraffe does seem a bit random tho! They played teams around england I assume Ogdens used his high profile image to either help charity or shift fags!

In the early 1890s baby frocks were fashionable apparel for ladies on the stage and especially in the ‘halls. Minnie Palmer, Marie Lloyd, Vesta Victoria wore them for their comic songs but it became popular for a time as costume in various colours. #MHVD2024 #MusicHallFashion

Kicking off #MHVD2024 with this Tom Browne sketch of Charles Morton as “father of music hall”. Used for the cover of 1904 testimonial fund matinee for his widow at the Palace Theatre, on Shaftesbury, attended by the great & good. A dazzling list of performers

My granny used to go to the Willesden Hippodrome in the 1930s. Located in Harlesden, the Frank Matcham building opened in Sept 1907. The hand painted souvenir cards given by Alec Hurley who starred at the opening and left for America shortly after with wife Marie Lloyd. #MHVD2023

She paid for her photo to be taken in this mesmerising pose by the darling of theatrical photography George Hana on the Strand in the 1890s but who is she? Skirt dance. A mystery woman in my collection. Does anyone know? #MHVD2023 #MusicHallVarietyDay
