73 goals is impressive. No one is denying the numbers. But he didn’t win the Champions League. He didn’t win the World Cup. Bayern got knocked out in the semis and England finished third.
Meanwhile Lamine Yamal won the World Cup and La Liga at 19. Mbappé took the World Cup Golden Boot and became the all time top scorer in World Cup history.
Neymar finished 3rd twice while being a key part of Champions League winning Barcelona sides and was widely seen as the best player outside Messi and Ronaldo for years and never got one. Lewandowski had a treble + historic scoring season and got blocked.
Kane gets it for farming goals in the Bundesliga and domestic cups. The award is officially dead.
