This Memorial Day, as we gather with our families across the beautiful landscape of District 31 and throughout Idaho, I ask that we take a quiet moment to reflect on the true meaning of this weekend.
While we enjoy the freedoms of our great state—from the mountains of Lemhi and Clark to the communities in Jefferson and Fremont—we do so only because of the ultimate sacrifice made by the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. These heroes gave everything so that we could live in peace and liberty.
Today is not just the start of summer; it is a day of profound gratitude. It is a day to honor those who never returned home and to support the families they left behind. Let us teach our children the cost of the freedom we enjoy and pledge to remain worthy of their sacrifice.
To all our veterans and the families of the fallen, please know that your sacrifice is deeply felt and never forgotten. Wishing you a reflective and meaningful Memorial Day.

EastIdahoNews.com sent the same eight questions to Furniss and former state Rep. Karey Hanks. Hanks told EastIdahoNews.com that she would not complete the questionnaire and did not provide a reason. What is she afraid of?

I've always admired President Donald Trump and the way his family coalesces around him and supports him. I have been a Trump fan when it wasn't popular when he came down the elevator. I took a lot of heat for that. I think a president should sign the front of the check and the back of the check so he understands business.
No one could explain what SB 1300 fixed. The strongest argument for the bill is about accountability. Agencies should answer to an elected governor confirmed by elected senators, not to insulated boards. I take that seriously. It just does not describe the system we had. Since 1938, the Fish and Game Commission has appointed its director. Since 1965, the parks board. Since 1974, the transportation board. The members of all three bodies are themselves appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate. The supporters of the accountability argument said they wanted something that already existed. SB 1300 shortened it by one step, at the cost of a regionally representative, merit-focused buffer that honored Idaho’s promise.

" Furniss presents himself as the adult in the room when it comes to the state’s ledger. He has served as the local and state president of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors …. This professional trajectory explains why he is comfortable in the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee—he speaks the language of the spreadsheet.
