Perhaps the greatest tragedy of being human isn't that we eventually die, but that we spend so much of our lives learning how to live.

What is RodneyRemix? I've been having a wonderful time taking photographs of some truly extraordinary guys and transforming them into something that reflects the way I see them. But I've come to realize that RodneyRemix is about something more than creating beautiful images. Bodybuilding can be a world of endless comparison. We look at someone else's physique and sometimes find ourselves thinking about everything we lack. I'd rather turn that dynamic on its head. Instead of comparison, there's admiration. Instead of envy, there's celebration. Instead of asking, "Why can't I look like him?" I'd rather say, "Look how extraordinary he is. I want the world to see what I see." The physiques are theirs. The years of dedication, discipline, and sacrifice are theirs. I haven't created any of that. I'm simply using a little imagination and technology to celebrate what they've already accomplished. And the most rewarding part isn't necessarily the finished image. It's when someone responds with genuine happiness, or tells me how much it meant to them. Because in that moment, something wonderful happens. I've made someone else feel seen and appreciated. And through their response, they've done the same for me. Their joy becomes part of mine. I've spent a good portion of my own life struggling with comparison and feelings of inadequacy. Perhaps that's part of why this means so much to me. I'm discovering that appreciating someone else's beauty doesn't diminish my own. Celebrating their accomplishments doesn't make mine any less meaningful. Quite the opposite. A rising tide lifts all ships. And if something I create can lift someone's spirits, even for a moment, then RodneyRemix has accomplished something far more meaningful than just making a cool picture. Because somewhere along the way, we've made each other feel seen, appreciated, and valued. And to me, that's what makes it all worthwhile. That's what RodneyRemix is to me.

My friend Liv competed in her first ever bikini contest today at the York Barbell Muscle Town Natural Championships and placed 3rd. In her first show ever. And she’s only been preparing for this since January of this year as her before and after pics show. Damned proud of her accomplishment.

It is super bizarre that such a seemingly simple muscle group can be a struggle for most of the gym people. As easy as it is to load the biceps, I think it’s just as easy to take the tension off it, and to have other muscle groups and joints contribute to the movement of the weight on the concentric and eccentric. Common failures (and there are many others) 1. They go too heavy 2. They use momentum 3. The arc of the weight is suboptimal, and they cheat by shortening the arc, rather than elongating it 4. Shoulder flexion on concentric takes early tension off the bicep/initiates the movement 5. Shoulder extension shortens the movement on the eccentric and the weight moves without the bicep lengthening, reducing tension and load on the bicep People should try to go super light and figure out how to make it difficult. Just to find what works, and what is cheating them out of gains. Another funny thing is that shoulder flexion can also increase the load on your bicep by putting it in a mechanically disadvantaged position, but where/when it happens in the movement matters greatly.
