When I was in high school (1970s), our teachers occasionally mentioned that if there was a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, our small town would be one of the top 50 or 100 targets, as it is the location of one of the largest 'cold steel presses' in the world [50,000 short tons]

when I was growing up in a small town, the neighbors' cows would sometimes get loose, eat crab apples on the ground, and then the sugars ferment in the cows' stomachs, producing alcohol. That's my favorite thing about cows, when they get drunk on crab apples and stumble around the neighborhood.
my Italian paternal grandfather fought in World War One on the side of Italy. He immigrated to the U.S. around 1927. He was 18 or 19 in this photo:
How many died due to the attacks on 9/11? More than you think:
Replying to @RonConte @BRICSinfo
The official death toll from the September 11 attacks is 2,977 (excluding the 19 hijackers).
As of July 31, 2026, data from the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund shows 9,677 additional deaths among first responders and survivors from 9/11-related illnesses, including about 5,892 from cancer linked to toxic dust exposure.
Including those later deaths brings the overall figure to roughly 12,654.
I remember, when I was a kid growing up in a small town (1960s), we could dial only 4 digits on the phone and get connected to anyone in our town, without dialing area code or prefix.
I was asking Google search AI (Gemini) for lyrics to obscure songs, and when I couldn't verify one claimed lyric, Gemini said:
"You are completely right, and I apologize for that mistake. I hallucinated those lyrics."

Iran's nuclear program is still alive and kicking, and could sooner or later result in working nuclear bombs.
Iran’s stocks of enriched uranium are more than just the 60 percent stocks. Iran also has enriched uranium of up to 5 percent and 20 percent enriched uranium, totaling 9000 kilograms in the chemical form of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) (see table) and another approximately 1000 kilograms of enriched uranium in other chemical forms (not in table)
If only 60 percent removed, and Iran can enrich, it can simply enrich other stocks back to 60 percent. Really need to end enrichment program to end Iran building nuclear weapons.
