Hackers will steal $5.6B in crypto but not bother to wipe out any of our unsecured consumer debt or student loans. Fuckin' loser hackers.

It's bewildering to see that many rightoids mourning the self proclaimed socialist and woke activist Patrick Stewart because they remember Star Trek from their youth before hatred turned their brains into mashed potato

The problem with 911 is that you, the caller, cannot opt out of a police response. You cannot say "first responder but no police". You can try to explain to the operator that no cop is necessary but ultimately 911 decides.

I get so annoyed by posts like this.
People get sick. People get pregnant. Life happens. Unexpected things happen. And what exactly is the alternative? That people should just end up on the street because life didn’t go according to plan?
It’s genuinely wild to me that this is even a debate.
You can say whatever you want about Europe, and people certainly love to talk about our taxes. But you know what? Our schools are free. Healthcare is free or affordable. Universities are free or heavily subsidized. Childcare is affordable. And if you lose your job or get sick, there’s a system in place to help you get back on your feet.
That’s the whole point. We have a social safety net because we understand that life doesn’t always go as planned.
And I genuinely believe that having that protection should be a basic human right, not a privilege.
Now, if you want to talk about how Europe can make it easier for startups to grow, attract investment, or build successful companies, I’m all for that conversation. There’s plenty we can improve.
But please, let’s stop acting like our social welfare system is the problem.
It’s one of the things we should be most proud of.
European hiring rules are genuinely insane.
For example - if you own a company in the Netherlands and one of your employees gets sick, you are required to pay at least 70% of their wages for up to 2 years.
If they can't go back to work after 2 years and you haven't done enough for their reintegration, you pay their wages for 1 more year. And you can't fire them until after that extra year!
See, Americans are great because they assume everyone else is as lie cheat and steal as they are
Replying to @keewa
Wow sounds amazing. More people should immigrate to Europe. Just get Hired and take sick leave for two years whilst the government pays for it!

the netherlands: you can’t fire your sick employees
USA morons: this is like the holocaust
This mf started OpenAI as a non-profit with a mission to build open source for all humans.
Now everything is closed, and this guy is talking shit about open source and local inference.
What a stupid scammer.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
“a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”
