As Rwanda advances greener and more resource-efficient construction, access to the right materials and equipment at the right quality and cost will be critical.
Today, @GGGI_Rwanda and @expertisefrance, in partnership with the Government of Rwanda through the @Rwanda_Housing (RHA) and @RwandaProcure, brought together government representatives, construction and engineering professionals, academia and other stakeholders to validate findings from the Market Study on Rwanda’s Green Building Materials and Equipment Market.
The study assessed the availability, affordability and supply of green building materials and equipment in Rwanda, providing evidence on market conditions as well as the opportunities and constraints affecting the uptake of sustainable construction solutions.
Of the 58 green building materials and equipment assessed, two were selected for deeper analysis based on market readiness, demand, lifecycle costs and supply chains. These findings will help identify practical opportunities to strengthen market uptake and inform the development of green public procurement guidelines for Rwanda’s construction sector.
The Market Study was conducted under the Green Public Financial Management (PFM) technical assistance programme, funded by the Agence Française de Développement | @AFD_France and implemented by Expertise France. The programme supports Rwanda’s efforts to integrate environmental and climate considerations into public financial management and public spending.
By strengthening the evidence base for greener procurement and construction, the study contributes to Rwanda’s efforts to build a more sustainable and resilient construction sector.
