In the last two elections NY has shifted dramatically to the right because Gov. Hochul pushed policies which harm NY’s suburban and rural communities. Her poor choices may cost her the Governor’s race in 2026. My latest for @nypost with @JoinYoungVoices:

This is the last Saturday --- except for December 26th --- without college basketball until April 10th, 2027.
Anyone who has a list like this of “worst supreme court decisions” has no clue what they are talking about. This is what occurs when people listen to faux Supreme Court scholars.

Pope Leo just welcomed the Villanova and Notre Dame basketball teams for a special private audience at the Vatican ahead of tomorrow’s Eternal City Tip-Off in Rome.

"As Americans have soured on Israel, as elected officials such as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani have elevated anti-Zionism into a left-wing litmus test, as podcasters of all stripes invert the history of World War II and spread lies of a Jewish conspiracy, antisemitism has flourished on the street. Tongues wag. Bigots crow. Innocents pay the price."

As fate would have it, Villanova administrators happened to be landing in Chicago for a fundraiser on May 8, 2025.
White smoke appeared that day, and the connections, both near and far, were overwhelming.
How the Eternal City Tip-Off between Nova and Notre Dame came together, for @SBJ

During his 1985 championship run, Villanova head coach Rollie Massimino was incredibly paranoid about other teams spying on his
So he:
- taped bed sheets over hotel rooms during film
- kept playbooks in locked briefcases
- wouldn’t let his coaches throw away game plans. They had to either tear them up, or burn them

This is the single best advice for young lawyers - everything else is details 🎯
Weil object lesson for young lawyers:
There is one thing that gives you value as a lawyer, and it’s not the name on the law firm door or the people you partner with. It’s that when someone has a complex, life-altering problem, they pick up the phone and call YOU.
EVERYTHING else is fungible.
Find other people to work with who (1) have this quality and (2) you like to be around.

Holy Moly, this is insane.
Weil Gotshal, one of America's most prestigious "BigLaw" firms is closing its doors.
Weil Gotshal was the gold standard. When people think of "white shoe" NYC firms, this is what they think of. In my legal career, if you were given an offer to be an associate at Weil Gotshal it was like winning ten Willy Wonka golden tickets.
Wow.
In fact, the idea they are shutting down is basically unthinkable. This is like the New York Yankees getting kicked out of MLB. It's like General Motors going out of business. It's like China deciding to sell itself to South Korea. It's like watching a James Bond movie where he quits His Majesty's Secret Service to instead run a transgender book store in Greenwich Village.
I know most of my followers are not lawyers (but some of you are), so I'm highlighting this because it is a true bombshell in the legal industry.
I wonder if this is part of a cascade of impending BigLaw firm failures as happened in 2008 after the housing crisis?

I cannot stress enough how seismic an event the Weil crash is for BigLaw. This is an “I remember where I was” moment for the industry.

We’ve seen a few law firm mergers and dissolutions in recent years, nothing compares to what’s happening at Weil.
Truly shocking.

Few know that big firms give pensions. Main reason many senior partners stick around and float down big book river for too long. Wishing the Weil crew good things. I’ve been tough on them but it’s a good, proven shop. Truly a modern day bank run - except the bags of cash are ppl. And the ppl command bags of cash. I still think a merger is their best bet, but they will not retain a controlling stake brand wise
NEW: Brian Resnick from Davis Polk restructuring team now on scene at Weil and wind-down now being actively discussed among options:

A major Wall Street law firm is unraveling. Wild to see.
News @semafor: One of Weil’s top partners, Ramona Nee, is in talks to leave the firm to join Simpson, Thacher, per people familiar with the matter. Talks have failed with Wilkie; other firms have expressed interest.
