Perhaps apropos of recent convos, my ILs invited us to Thanksgiving on their farm but we’ve planned to stay home. I was worried about how to respond, meanwhile my husband immediately says, “we love tgiving at the farm but we’re staying home this year. Thanks for the invite!” Oh!

Time for my annual “it’s not a replacement but an additional event that you’re not required to attend” tweet. We went to a trunk or treat last weekend, fun! We’ll also be trick or treating with our neighbors on actual Halloween.
I can tell this will become an annual lament for me: the “trunk and treat” is a degraded, uncivilized, atomized replacement for actually going around to your neighbors’ houses and interacting with them on Halloween. Horrible development in American life.

“No I will not spend *$5000* to drive 2.5 hours away to celebrate your insignificant milestone bday, a party invitation is tantamount to a *summons* how dare you demand that of me, I can’t *leave* my baby but also *don’t* invite him bc I still don’t want to go!!!!”

Finally just straight-up blocked the person whose core conversational strategy seems to be to take the most hyperbolic, bad-faith interpretation of any discourse and act like it’s a reasonable extrapolation. It appears to work on a lot of people, but couldn’t be me!

The first year we did this trip, my youngest was an infant and we stayed ~2 hour drive from my house. So I just went one night instead of all three. Idk, there’s often an array of options between “yes” and “no,” just gotta get comfortable with open and honest communication.
I love going away with girlfriends for our annual long weekend trip (year 7 this year!) Not all of our group goes every year. One never goes bc she doesn’t want to leave her kids. It’s all fine! Lotta people on both “sides” of this discourse are being weird and presumptuous.

It’s “hard” to be away from your babies/toddlers but also solo parenting is annoying? Interesting. Anyway, I have a handful of nights a year away solo with friends or family, and I’m also not resentful about solo parenting when the situation is reversed. Much to think about!

I guess re: the one who doesn’t want to leave her kids, you could feel bad or judged by that. I simply do not, lol, I’m confident in my parenting choices. Also we’re friends, and i don’t think she’s judging me anyway! Just different personalities—again, It’s Fine.

Husband and son are at a Cub Scout camping trip, so I let my 7 yo daughter plan our day. I stg she has endless energy! Farmers market, coffee shop, Michael’s, Home Depot, soccer game, Halloween carnival, Target, crafting, and now watching a movie and waiting for sushi delivery 😴

She has the best style, though. Shirt was already hers and yes we bought the jeans 😂

If Airbnbs are essentially operating as hotels then they would presumably go in and clean (or have professional cleaners) within hours of guests leaving…or are hosts basically trusting guests to clean enough that they don’t check on the place for days???
Wait. You're not supposed to clean up after yourself when you stay somewhere? I can't wrap my head around they can't require you to do dishes thing... It's a food safety thing. Dirty dishes you leave can attract rats, flies, ants, and be a breeding ground for mold. If you dont wanna wash dishes, bring disposable dishes.

Accidentally became important at work and now on top of the writing and editing that is my actual skill set, I also have to track revenue, create budget spreadsheets, and perform other tasks that require math and/or being organized.

This is bananas!! If you and your partner both have middle seats, you simply cannot ask someone to switch — especially for a 10-hour flight!! And if you can’t last one flight without sitting next to your partner, seek help for codependency that’s impacting quality of life lmao.

I’m sorry but this is so funny 😭😭 I don’t think an encyclopedic knowledge of global electricity standards is the best metric for how well-traveled someone is. Anyway, I don’t use a blow dryer so this convo is largely moot for me lmao.
Why are Americans just finding out about British electricity rules? You'd think they were uneducated or not at all well travelled or something...

My 7 yo daughter’s friend called my husband “dude,” I laughed, her parents very seriously said to her, “we do not talk that way.”

RSV is the leading cause of hospitalization for infants. The fact that this vaccine is now available is an incredible advancement, I only wish I’d had access while I was pregnant.
The RSV vaccine is a new vaccine they recommend pregnant women get I'm opting out of it after I read a study published in March 2024 that showed women who take it have a higher chance of going into labor 2 weeks early The study had 5100 women, with 2/3s being given the vaccine and 1/3 the placebo They were supposed to get to 10,000 pregnant women in total, but abruptly stopped the study after they found this correlation

I used to be a senior leader of campus comms at a DC university—“run/hide/fight” is standard language in such emergencies. No one needs to be fired, this warning was issued by someone doing their job to spread awareness under terrifying circumstances.
A higher up needs to change the password to this account immediately. The situation was serious and thankfully cleared, but reporting on these matters can't be left to some 19 year old raised by Twitter and Call of Duty.

Everyone’s like, “of course we Americans like medicine, we have little sick time or access to health care,” but I’m built different. I have unlimited PTO and good insurance, I just don’t like feeling yucky if I don’t have to 💅
Americans are weirdly obsessed with medicine. They'll get a cold and to treat it they'll buy out the whole pharmacy and take 50 different medicines and syrups that no one outside of the US has ever heard of.

Sorry, multiple times a MONTH?! What do we think the medical professional will do? Sporadic OTC painkiller use is pretty low stakes. I absolutely encourage everyone to get annual well checks but “I take Motrin 2x a month” is not exactly an emergency lmao.
If you feel shitty enough to reach for paracetamol or ibuprofen multiple times a month / every single month that is not actually normal & you should get checked out by a medical professional and that's the end of it tbh

Also, “so painful” is pretty subjective. I sometimes take an IBU capsule for period cramps, bc why tf not. They don’t have to be debilitating to take low-risk medication. And no, I am certain I don’t have endo or fibroids. xitter.cf/inchorinfinity/status/…
Replying to @InchOrInfinity
And YES if your period is so painful you spend days needing to take painkillers every single month consistently just to get through it that IS often indicative of endo or fibroids or something else. Don't just accept you are in constant terrible pain bc you have a period.
