My two are on that route now. And D1 is the next stop. It's a great route that all HS athletes need to put higher on their list.
When are parents and players going to wake up to the JUCO option as USUALLY THE BEST college baseball option out of HS? It’s usually the golden path overlooked….
Junior College Baseball (in general) @jucoroute is an absolute amazing route to all future levels of college baseball. Even D1 and possibly the MLB draft. Why so many look down on this option is beyond me. Stop!! 🛑.. It’s time to WAKE UP!!!
See JUCO as the green light not a red light or caution light. Be proud of playing JUCO Baseball and one day you will tell others what a great opportunity it afforded you to grow up, get tougher, better odds of playing time, and to be ready for anything life can throw at you. To wear the proud badge of a JUCO BANDIT!!
But you better love playing baseball. JUCO is usually no frills. Baseball at its purest. For the love of the game. Survival of the fittest and mentally toughest.
I played JUCO (Junior College =‘s Frosh and Soph years) baseball in Florida before going D1 and so did my son 30 years later. Taber would tell you his FLA JUCO could beat over 50% of the teams he played at the D1 level.
*** Parents and players, quit sticking your nose up at this amazing opportunity. ***
And don’t think “If all else fails, I’ll just do JUCO.” You will be shocked how competitive those roster spots are.
BUT… if you are willing to go bet on yourself and grind it out, you will likely find yourself on a junior college roster somewhere. Even if you have to redshirt year 1. Keep grinding. You would be so surprised how ready you will be to one day to step on a field at the D1 level, D2, D3 or NAIA and thrive!!!!!

The overwhelming majority of players belong in junior colleges.
Why Juco?
100% scholarship (most cases) vs 25% scholarship.
Two seasons (fall and spring).
Immediate playing time (most cases).
Smaller classes.
Younger players.
Less restrictions on coach's time spent with players.
Draft and four year options open.
Learn to grind.
The game is slowly returning to where it belongs. Can you get on base? The exit velo is irrelevant.

Everything matters.
One of the best scouts I've ever been around and one of my mentors Tom Kotchman said.
I want to see kids play in intersquad games (so called meaningless games) and or practice.
Why?
He said how they played in low adrenaline environments is who they really are.
MLB seasons are long and players have to be studs even when the adrenaline is low.
People that say fall games or high school games or summer games or Intersquad games or practice is meaningless are lost.

This is an example of advance scouting at its best. The Astros 3B over reacts to the early bunt show & is unable to get back to 3B to cover the steal.

The art of deception and trickery has been removed from pitching!
Pitchers used to be thinkers who tried to confuse hitters in many different ways.
Shaking off, rushing hitters, holding the ball were just a couple ways they did this.
And they all worked!
That has been removed from the game by the Pitch Clock and PitchCom.
Now we have a bunch of non thinkers with great arms being told to throw 4 seam fastballs at the top of the zone at max effort and @MLB hitters consistently swinging under them!
The game is in the toilet and the non baseball people running it are to blame!

I’ve witnessed this firsthand, and it goes for ALL H.S. Sports:
Parents—stop talking negatively about other players just because you think your kid should be playing more.
Support your kid. Support the team. Leave other players out of it.
It’s really that simple.
Facts. The pro game is not great.
Hall of Famer Fred McGriff nails it!
Fred hit 493 HR’s and he has a (.284) career batting average which would be good for 16th place in the entire MLB in 2026 and he did it over 19 seasons!
Tino Martinez was a damn good hitter as well!
When guys like this talk hitting you better listen folks.

Soph INF Colin Wilbon (@LincolnTrailBSB) robbed of extra bases here on an excellent defensive play, 104 mph EV.
Strong, scrappy, and athletic, returns after a strong first year for Trail.

Reading balls in the dirt drill. The screen & tarp in front of the pitcher(Approximately 15’) forces the base runner to read the trajectory out of the hand. If you wait to see the ball hit the dirt, you are late. Part of the process is paying attention to pitch tendencies & know when it’s a high probability breaking ball/split situation.
