My mum used to drag us to Bromley highstreet one weekend in every month to traipse around the department stores with my grandparents. It was an upmarket place. One of the nicer areas of London. Now it's a third world bazaar with boarded-up shops and urban youths stabbing eachother in KFC. Just an extension of Lewisham or Catford. Like a demographic bomb went off, and everything from my childhood is just a nuclear shadow. Swarms of Deliveroo Indians on L-plate mopeds outside the Wingstop. Neon vape and candy stores surrounding the Churchill theatre. Drugged-up homeless lining the pavement between where Laura Ashley used to be, and Bromley South. Even the Glades feels soulless. No Build A Bear, no GAME, no Disney Store. Nothing fir kids anymore. Half the shopfronts are empty. Like the mall from Dawn of the Dead. What's been done to this place is unforgivable. It must be undone.
