Interesting overview of how little schooling has changed in the last 100 years. Disapointing though that the author seems unaware schools like @SVS_School changed the paradaigm 50 years ago. We're waiting for everyone else to catch up.

It's painfully obvious, I know—but it should *never* come down to recess versus academics. This piece is part of a research-based animation series I've been editing for @edutopia. More coming soon! #playmatters

We shouldn’t have to choose between staying close and connected to our children and a successful career. Let’s allow working parents and kids to participate in the #futureofwork #kidsarethefutureofwork

I wonder what percentage of these workers left to take care of a child. I'm building a solution @popschoolsapp

I feel ashamed
that so many of us cannot imagine a better way to do things than locking children up all day in cells
instead of letting them grow up knowing their families, mingling with the world,
assuming real obligations, striving to be independent & self-reliant & free.

"For a small child there is no division between playing and learning between the things he or she does just for fun and things that are educational. The child learns while living and any part of living that is enjoyable is also play. "

Self-Directed learning is not a refusal to be under the guidance of instruction; it’s the refusal to be guided by fear or coercion.

Life starts from day one. Students own their learning from the moment they enroll. Sometimes it takes them a while to figure out that no one is going to tell them what to learn. It may look like they’re experimenting for a long long time. But making choices takes practice.

😶🤐I hardly ever say, “be careful.” Not because it’s wrong...it’s just not helpful.

To “get” kids engaged, you just need to allow them time and space to find what matters to them, to locate meaningful, relevant challenges.

If I had to summarize all the research I’ve read on education in just two sentences:
Teaching doesn’t look like teaching.
Learning doesn’t look like learning.
If that’s accurate then when you think you’re teaching and they’re learning you’re most likely wrong.
