5 years is a VERY LONG time for a paper to be under review.
That was the case for our recently published paper in Nature.
Submitted in 2018 and published in 2023
What do you do as an early career researcher while waiting for a very important paper to be published ?

I am delighted to share that our book "Genomics in Africa" is officially published today by CRC Press, part of Taylor & Francis Group.
The book brings together the voices and experiences of researchers advancing human genetics and genomics across the continent.

Yesterday, we kicked off a Post-GWAS Interpretation Workshop at the Unit, bringing together researchers for three days of hands-on training on how to move from GWAS signals to meaningful biological interpretation.
Using tools including LDSSC, SuSiE, FINEMAP, COLOC, SMR and MAGMA, participants are exploring fine-mapping, gene prioritisation, genetic correlation and multi-omics integration to better understand the biology behind genetic signals.

🔥 Prof. @SFatumo from @LSHTM & @MRC_Uganda presents the genomic in Kidney & Psychiatry.
🔥 Great take have him in Uganda
@AJNiwaha @ACCESS_UG @Ug_kidneyf @AfricanAFRAN @graekan
🔥 He addressed brain drain too!

1/ Out today in Cell Genomics: "Agentic genomics: From pipeline automation to autonomous validation." With @HeinnerGuio and @SFatumo .
For 20 years the bottleneck in genomics was writing the code. That is going away.

Genomic science should not work for only a fraction of humanity. My career has been dedicated to changing that. Read my interview with @MyBioTechniques
“Genomic science should not work for only a fraction of humanity. My career has been dedicated to changing that.”
In this feature, Segun Fatumo – Professor and Chair of Genomic Diversity at Queen Mary University of London – shares the high-throughput genomics and advanced computational analyses he and his team use to increase African genomic representation.
Furthermore, Segun discusses how he is strengthening genomic research capacity in Africa as well as influencing global genomics policy, encouraging a shift from including African data to empowering African scientists.

Proud to share our latest work in #NatureGenetics, which links the plasma proteome to genetic variation in individuals from continental Africa in Uganda, addressing a long-standing gap in global genomics.
These findings highlight novel candidate biomarkers for type 2 diabetes and provide new insights into disease mechanisms that are often missed in Eurocentric studies.
Super grateful to all the team members at MRC Uganda/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit and Helmholtz Munich, especially @EleZeggini and @OpeSoremekun who led the work.
