"You don't show up on game day and expect to be great. Greatness happens in practice. You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them." (Michael Jordan)

When people ask me what one of the biggest predictors of a competitive kid is, my answer is usually the mom. Over 25 years of coaching, I’ve noticed that when Mom is competitive—a true dog—more often than not, her kids are too. Dads absolutely play a major role as well, but if I had to pick one trait that consistently shows up in competitive kids, it’s having a mom with that same fire.

Confidence isn’t given. It’s earned.
Steph Curry: “I always talk about earning & deserving the confidence you play with because of the work that you put in.”
Nobody’s born clutch.
They just did the boring part enough times that the big moment stopped feeling big.

A man spends 50 years teaching at MIT.
He knows his time is running out.
So he records one last lecture — everything he knows, distilled into a single hour.
He died 5 months later.
This is that lecture.
The most important hour you'll watch this week.

PLAYERS: Making excuses in the off-season about why you aren't in the gym or at training sessions will lead to making excuses during your season as to why you are on the bench.

Every JV kid wants varsity; almost none have a plan.
The off-season:
1) get stronger/more athletic (the #1 gap)
2) master one elite skill or become a defensive stopper
3) kill your biggest weakness
4) play up
5) Get on a real schedule.
Varsity is earned in July. – at Weston, FL

When you're in the lab, working on your "bag" this offseason, remember...
- 46.5% of your shots come with no dribble (catch and shoot)
- 22% of your shots come with 1 or 2 dribbles.
And don't forget, the more dribbles you take, the lower your shooting percentage gets.
No Dribbles - 1.19 Points Per Shot
1 Dribble - 1.10 Points Per Shot
2 Dribbles - 1.01 Points Per Shot
3+ Dribbles - 0.97 Points Per Shot
With a side note, layups are by far the most efficient shots in basketball, so use that dribble to get to the rim if you need to!
But becoming a complete scorer isn’t about collecting more moves.
It’s about developing the shooting, ball control, footwork, decision-making, and finishing skills to create the right shot without wasting movement or dribbles.
This data was taken from the 25-26 NBA season. It barely changes season to season.
Great to see RJ - Colin - Jake hooping together in the Ryan McKnight Memorial League in Springfield.
Great people playing for a great cause!
