Blessed feast of St. Pope John Paul II In 1997, the pastor of St. John Cantius Parish, Father C. Frank Phillips, C.R. announced his plans to rededicate the parish to Our Blessed Mother for the approaching third millennium and that he would like to accomplish this by making a new set of crowns for Mary and the Christ Child. Eager to help in this project, many parishioners soon began to donate jewelry and “old gold,” which were then fashioned into new crowns by a local goldsmith. In April of that year, he and a small delegation from the parish took the crowns to Rome. After attending the Holy Father’s morning Mass in his private chapel, Pope St. John Paul II met with them in his private study and blessed the new crowns. As the Holy Father was exiting the audience hall, he turned back to the group from St. John Cantius Parish, raised his right arm, as if in solemn pronouncement, and declared: “Matka Boska z Chicago,” that is, Our Lady of Chicago!”

On the feast of St. John Cantius, we remember the pilgrimage that the priests and brothers took to his tomb in Krakow during the 25th anniversary of the founding of their order. St. John Cantius is laid to rest inside the Collegiate Church of St. Anne in Krakow, Poland. The Mausoleum of St. John Cantius, was built in 1695-1700. Fr. Sebastian Piskorski was the author of the concept of the appearance. The project was drawn by the royal painter, Jerzy Eleuter Szymonowic-Siemiginowski, while the work was created by Baltazar Fontana's workshop and stonemason, Jan Liskowicz. There are impersonations of four faculties of the University – Theology, Law, Medicine and Liberal Arts – in the centre, holding the coffin with the cherubs statue surrounded by clouds.

“Do not let this opportunity pass you by. Do not view it as just another option among many. These are invitations from our Lord to spend quality time with Him. To rekindle that love. Today consider your relationship with where you are with God and where you would like to be. Have courage to give yourself to him. Because heaven is not simply a place we hope to enter Heaven is a union of love with God who has already given himself completely to us.” - Fr. David Yallaly

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen
