1억 2,500만 년 전 지금의 중국 북동부에 살았던 대벌레 코니파스마(Coniphasma)의 신종들이 보고되었다(1,2: C. inflatum/3: C. breve).
날개를 퇴화시키지 않은 대벌레 집단들 중에서도 돌기가 난 뒷다리로 스스로를 보호했던 종들도 있었을 것이다.
