In a culture obsessed with early achievement, author Rich Karlgaard isn't so interested in young achievers.
Instead, he looks at those for whom success comes later — in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond.

Interesting article on how the capacity for empathy nurtures cooperation. We can never care too deeply so its important we keep on harvesting the healing flame of empathy #empathy #trauma #developmental
Empathy and cooperation go hand in hand
Researchers investigate cooperation with an evolutionary approach. Using game-theory-driven models, they show a capacity for empathy fosters cooperation & depends on a society’s system for moral evaluation.

Children in the care system are already chronically traumatised so why are our social care systems subjecting them to the trauma of abandonment at a time when kindness and compassion is a life-saving antidote to their suffering?

Today is #NationalUnicornDay so Pooh and the gang have asked Eunice the #Orkney Unicorn to read them some of her favourite unicorn stories. She's a bit stern so even Tigger is sitting still. 🦄

By leaving the decision to allocate provision of children's services to local authorities already in funding crisis and starving of resources this statement from government sounds like a politically expedient move to abdicate responsibility. @first1001days @EarlyPotential
This feels like a significant and sad statement from government in their response to @CommonsEd
We have lost the central vision for children’s centres as a space and centre of expertise for families in the early years.

Such a damning indictment of the poverty of our educational policies: About 100 schools in England are starved of bare essentials: pencils, erasers, glue and even soap. Some heads are even doing domestic work .. gu.com/p/b7k5e/stw

We were also discussing the importance of not simply framing a child's complex reactions to stress within the context of either a fight/flight or freeze/submit response @BDPerry @ChildTraumaAcad @KibbleCharity @ClacksEPS
This led to a discussion on the importance of viewing the complexities of stress biology through a three dimensional lens which allows us to map more clearly a child's threat response 'capabilities' on a continuum of arousal @BDPerry @ChildTraumaAcad @KibbleCharity @ClacksEPS
Today in our NMT meeting we talked about the complexity and diversity of the stress response system and that most perspectives are based on a two dimensional model of stress biology which is overly simplistic @BDPerry @ChildTraumaAcad @KibbleCharity @ClacksEPS
