The comparison is also a bit unfair. No one can currently do atomic transactions from Ethereum to any other chain either. In fact, it takes something like 13 minutes for a transaction to finalize until single-slot finality is implemented.

The beacon chain already makes it require a >1/3 coalition to revert a block (unless you are guessing-a-private-key-level lucky in choosing coalitions). Though I agree that single slot finality is a significant further improvement.

A benefit of finality on each block as opposed to using gadgets is that individual block producers can't play consensus level games to extract MEV without at least a 1/3+ coalition.

This, unfortunately, shows that the analysis by @gakonst and @VitalikButerin here was too optimistic when the article claimed re-org stability will improve in POS over POW.
