Ad Agency gets a slating! Is it a social engineering portrayal of mixed race grandchildren or a racists portrayal as brats! Either way it offends both camps. All we need now is Islamists objecting to Christmas celebrations.
Good grief, but the John Lewis Xmas advert is AWFUL.
It's basically an advert for buying gifts for ungrateful kids with terrible parents.
The grandchildren are just plain rude. The parents don't notice or care. So the grandma decides to splash the cash on gifts she thinks they will like - so rewarding their rudeness!
If I had a kid who behaved like that, they wouldn't be getting a single gift on Christmas Day. Not one.
Oh, and of COURSE the ad has to feature a mixed race family (who make up 1.3% of all British families yet about 50% of families appearing in TV adverts) because, y'know, diversity.
It's all so bloody irritating. 🙄

The 'slavery financed the industial revolution' thesis originates with Eric Williams, a Caribbean historian whose 1944 book 'Capitalism and Slavery' drew upon Marxist economic interpretations of history - hardly surprising given that his mentor was Trinidadian Marxist intellectual C. L. R. James.
Marxism would have it that every advance in capitalist development is built upon the enslavement of the proletariat. So *of course* they would have to blame the industrial revolution of the evils of capitalist oppressors, not the ingenuity of British inventiveness.
The Williams theory has since been comprehensively demolished by scholar after scholar, most particularly by David Eltis and Stanley Engerman.**
But as usual with the left, it's a case of "don't spoil my opinions with your facts". Truth is irrelevant.
