The 'slavery financed the industial revolution' thesis originates with Eric Williams, a Caribbean historian whose 1944 book 'Capitalism and Slavery' drew upon Marxist economic interpretations of history - hardly surprising given that his mentor was Trinidadian Marxist intellectual C. L. R. James.
Marxism would have it that every advance in capitalist development is built upon the enslavement of the proletariat. So *of course* they would have to blame the industrial revolution of the evils of capitalist oppressors, not the ingenuity of British inventiveness.
The Williams theory has since been comprehensively demolished by scholar after scholar, most particularly by David Eltis and Stanley Engerman.**
But as usual with the left, it's a case of "don't spoil my opinions with your facts". Truth is irrelevant.
**The Importance of Slavery and the Slave Trade to Industrializing Britain (2000), Journal of Economic History, Vol. 60, No. 1, pp. 123–144.
Britain should apologise for slavery & pay reparations. Our wealth today is based on the industrial revolution - partly funded by slavery
But the leaders of African nations whose kingdoms sold their own people to British slavers should also apologise

Douglas Murray says the alliance between Western progressives and Islamists has one fatal flaw: the Islamists will shoot you first.
He points to Iran in 1979, when leftists, trade unionists and communists helped Ayatollah Khomeini overthrow the Shah – only to be massacred and hanged once the Islamic regime took power.

Henry Nowak’s family have said they were “manipulated in our darkest hour” by police after his murder.
The 18-year-old’s family have said they felt “hoodwinked” by police in the immediate aftermath of his death and the weeks and months that followed.

Can you imagine Obama doing this?

‘Manipulated in our darkest hours’: Henry Nowak’s family say police misled them.
Shocking revelations from our interview include:
- Police originally called Henry the aggressor
- They asked the family their political views
- The IOPC said there was *no misconduct* before Henry’s family saw the video of the way police treated their son
- The family were only played the video on the first day of the trial

I am so glad Mark, Lucy and Katie have been able to tell their story.
It is beyond harrowing, utterly shattering and I hate so much that I know exactly how they feel. 💔
This is a shameful expose (yet another one) of the rot in policing and the even deeper rot in the alleged ‘independent’ watchdog, the IOPC.

It’s entirely reasonable to question the cultural and ethnic transformation of a country when even its capital is losing its own identity.
Where have all the Cockneys gone?
We’re told to celebrate diversity, yet expected to stay silent as London’s traditional culture disappears.
Why is everyone else’s heritage worth preserving but ours?

Ok it's been days now and nothing has been said about this by the legacy media and politicians.
A young white boy is openly attacked by police!
Any other race and there'd be riots.
Because he's white, nothing is even being said!

🚨 ISLAMIC BLASPHEMY LAW BY THE BACK DOOR 🚨
Kellie-Jay Keen (@ThePosieParker) has been charged with a criminal offence over posts criticising Islam, Muslim cultural practices and Islamism.
The Free Speech Union is proud to be defending her.
In a free society, no religion or cultural practice should be immune from criticism.
Since Labour came to power, the number of FSU cases involving people penalised for criticising Islam has doubled. It is now the single biggest category in our casework.
And now, with a state-approved definition of Islamophobia — rebranded as “anti-Muslim hostility” — things are only getting worse.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Communities Secretary Angela Rayner met Muslim community leaders in Downing Street. Burnham took a swipe at critics of Islam, saying “some of the language” opposition parties use “is unacceptable”, and told the leaders “we need to find ways with you to demonstrate that more and more”.
We now await Rayner’s appointment of an “Islamophobia tsar” who will help enforce the definition.
All five hand-picked members of the Working Group that drafted it have concerning links to Islamist organisations, as FSU Research and Policy Director @DavidRoseUK exposed in his report. We have little hope that the appointed tsar will be good news for free speech.
Meanwhile, the Government is refusing to say who submitted responses to the Working Group, so we cannot know which groups shaped the definition. Islamists may well have had a hand in its drafting.

The use of a petrol bomb constitutes lethal force, and a police officer is entitled to use proportionate force to defend themselves or others against such an attack. This can include lethal force where necessary to protect life. The demonstrator known this.

Le Pen Translated: The images of a police officer engulfed in flames after being targeted with incendiary devices are unbearable. Those responsible for this attack must be found and punished with the utmost severity.
