This is more than a place. This is home. This is Ekiti. From the richness of our land to the strength of our people, every road, every community, every enterprise and every growing opportunity tells a story of a state moving forward. We are building an Ekiti where hard work finds opportunity, where our resources create prosperity, and where every generation can look ahead with hope and pride. The journey continues. The possibilities are endless. This is Ekiti. our pride, our home, our future.

Reminder to go touch grass A scientist in Japan demonstrated that the air inside a forest strengthens your immune system for a full month The study is incredibly fascinating: Qing Li, an immunologist at Nippon Medical School in Tokyo, took 12 men on a 3-day forest trip. These were slow walks with no breathing exercises and no set route. Then he tested their blood and found a surge in natural killer cells -- the immune cells your body uses to fight cancer and virus-infected cells. Remarkably, the effect didn't fade when they went home, it was still measurable 30 days later. A control group that walked the same distance through a city showed no change at all. Pine, cedar, and cypress trees release compounds called phytoncides to defend themselves from insects and bacteria. You breathe them in, and Li believes they switch your immune cells into high gear. He estimates one forest walk a month may be enough to keep those cells elevated all year. The best medicine might not even need a prescription -- just a walk among the trees.

Anthropologist Margaret Mead was once asked by a student what she believed was the very first sign of known civilization. The student expected her to talk about a hatchet, perhaps fishhooks, the bow and arrow... Possibly a building structure, clay pots or grinding stones and knives. But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a thighbone that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, your timely death is assured. "You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal." A broken thighbone that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. "Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts." Mead said. We are at our very best when we truly help and serve others. Be civilized. Be kind. Be helpful

Scientists have identified a new primate species in a remote forest of the Congo Basin that our donors helped protect! 🐒🌿 With distinctive orange lips and a mane of shaggy black hair, Colobus congoensis stands out among primates in the Congo. But the shy species eluded identification for almost two decades! In 2018, building on a blurry photo taken ten years earlier, scientists began acoustic monitoring, community outreach, and genetic analysis to gather evidence in and around Lomami National Park. This week, the species was formally recognized when the research team published their findings in PLOS One. In 2015, with the Lukuru Wildlife Research Foundation (LWRF), we helped support the creation of Lomami National Park to protect 2.2 million acres of habitat in the Democratic Republic of Congo. 🇨🇩 Little did we know that, along with endangered wildlife like African Forest Elephants and Bonobos, we were helping secure the small stretch of forest that sustains this extremely rare monkey. Without protection, primates and other mammals in this area are highly vulnerable to the commercial bushmeat trade. Our partnership with LWRF also helped establish anti-poaching teams to stop illegal hunting. The world’s newest monkey has a safe haven in Lomami Park, thanks to these teams, our local partner, and our supporters. Protecting rare species like this is only possible because of dedicated donors like you. From all of us at Rainforest Trust, thank you for your unwavering support! 🌎💚

The roaming elephants in Ngala and Kala-Balge are destroying farms and putting lives at risk. This is now a safety and economic threat. Government must act fast before the situation gets out of control. @DHQNigeria @HQNigerianArmy @ProfZulum
