We lodged a complaint with the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) against Wanyange Girls Senior Secondary School in Jinja District following the unlawful exclusion of Senior Four candidates from school over non-payment of school fees, only days before the 2026 UCE examinations. Sending candidates away at this critical stage denies them continued access to classes and academic preparation and disproportionately affects girls from low-income families. We are calling for the students’ urgent readmission and protection of their right to education without discrimination.

A mental health condition should not be used as a basis to automatically take away a woman’s property, decision-making power or relationship with her children. The law provides safeguards where a person is determined to lack capacity, but such a determination must follow the legal process. Mental illness is not the same as incapacity.
