White privilege doesn’t mean that white people don’t have hard or challenging lives. It means that the colour of our skin isn’t one of the things making our lives hard or challenging. Not 👏 that 👏 complicated 👏.

Another story impossible to imagine in any other administration: the president's son goes hunting with a Russian criminal who is part of Putin's security entourage
The trip highlights the remarkable relationship between a son of the US president and a tycoon with a criminal record who has close ties to Vladimir Putin’s personal security service. Intelligence experts say such connections are ripe for manipulation. ft.trib.al/p0LBRYI

**EXCLUSIVE** Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak met a senior UK government minister to discuss the UAE’s investments in Britain just days before the club’s guilty verdicts were announced. Al Mubarak asked to meet Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds on 14 September in his capacity as CEO of Mubadala Investment Company, the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, sources tell Bloomberg. The pair held a private meeting in Downing Street on that date, the people said. Al Mubarak talked about current and future UAE investment in Britain, they said. The conversation covered the full range of the relationship including defence, security, intelligence and trade, they said. Eleven days later, on 25 September, the Athletic reported Man City had been found guilty of breaking Premier League rules. On 29 September, the Premier League confirmed Manchester City had been found guilty of artificially boosting its balance sheet by more than £900 million. The fact of the meeting so close to the verdict will raise further questions about the UK government’s handling of the case. Andy Burnham has faced criticism, including from his own ministers and officials, after he publicly suggested Man City’s Abu Dhabi owners should not be disqualified from running the club because of the investment they bring to Britain. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Emirati officials have warned the UK government that the severity of the ruling could undermine their appetite for future grand-scale commitments in Britain. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

To be fair, if you’d told me the last time Arsenal won the league that by the time they win another one Chelsea will have won 5 leagues, 5 Fa Cups, 2 club world cups and 6 European trophies 2 of which were Champions Leagues, I would’ve probably taken it.

... comparisons between generations are always invidious but so much to look at in a re-view of 1970. The tackles, the pitch, the number of English-qualified players and manager. Also the game decided on a set-piece. Column 2/2. open.substack.com/pub/henryw…

“Recriminations forgotten, the players swap shirts,” so intoned the commentator at the end of what’s been called “the dirtiest game in English football history”. Chelsea v Leeds in the FA Cup final replay of 1970, the most watched club game in English TV history... 1/2

All the money they’ve spent and they ended up with a Hull reject as manager, a Forest Green reject as their first choice keeper, and a back four that to say would be championship standard is being kind. If you think this lot are improving then you’re beyond help.

Nothing says "I'm not bothered" quite like trawling through old game show clips on YouTube to rehearse a prepared answer to a question you know you're going to be asked.
Monty Panesar said England should reignite Sandpaper-gate during the Ashes... Steve Smith came prepared. 😂

This is another sign, just like the European Super League’s collapse, that sometimes, fan/player protest and the voices of the many actually do make a difference. It’s so easy to assume individual fans no longer matter but occasionally, the needle can be moved. Fantastic.
🚨 Villarreal vs. Barcelona in Miami has been called off, both LaLiga and match promoters Relevent Sports confirm. The match was due to take place at Hard Rock on December 20. 🗣️ LaLiga say "the decision has been made to cancel the event due to the uncertainty that has prevailed in Spain in recent weeks" adding they "deeply regret a historic and unprecedented opportunity for the international expansion of Spanish football could not be carried out."

Some staggering doublethink/hypocrisy from well known radical right accounts on here 1) Turns out words do hurt and matter after all- many spent years telling us they didn’t and free speech should be absolute/ spent months defending Lucy Connolly for literally inciting violence. 2) That political violence/rhetoric is the sole preserve of the left despite all the evidence and real world events to the contrary. 3) That the accusation of fascism/far right behaviours is worse than the behaviours themselves. For example like lying about a “stolen election” and literally using violence to stop it. 4) That MAGA isn’t a divisive movement and never has been. Maga doesn’t like being called far right- fine. Will we have a moratorium on the use of “far left”? Will we stop hearing about how anyone who disagrees with them is about to presage the destruction of Western civilisation? 5) That cancellation is ok after all- something now being demanded of the Oxford Union president.

Charlie Kirk’s death is an appalling event. Precisely because it is so appalling, it is staggering to see senior politicians and media figures commenting at a time when we don’t have firm evidence about motive or the murderer. It is equally staggering to see those same figures pretending political violence and invective is only coming from one direction, rather than a rising and general scourge. That will make the problem worse. At the same time it is quite something to see those senior politicians and media figures now claim that there should be limits to free speech and that words *can* apparently hurt after all.

PM’s wilful and deliberate ignorance is easily one of the most frustrating things on this platform. Loves to play the useful idiot for whichever cause is about to benefit him best.
Have I got this right…. The world’s liberals are enraged with a Republican U.S. president because he wants to STOP two wars?
