for the past couple of weeks I’ve been working on a native macOS film/print simulation app. not starting from zero here. this began as a fork of spektrafilm, and a huge part of the work is understanding, porting, and adapting it into a native Mac experience with a Metal renderer.

we're only getting starteddddd
October has been an absolute nightmare for software > Railway - customer secrets exposure > LiteLLM - malicious PyPI + Docker releases > Zeabur - infrastructure breached > OpenCode - AI API keys exposed > OVHcloud CLI - official binaries backdoored > Rank Math PRO - malware in official plugin > TeamUpdraft - customer data compromised > ConnectWise - cloud backup identities compromised > Tensorlake - npm package infected > SubQuery - backdoored npm package > GhostAction - GitHub repos with malicious workflows > PHP - critical RCE vulnerabilities > Node.js - security vulnerabilities patched > eMudhra - certificate authority keys compromised > Tailscale - eMudhra incident At this point, the biggest security risk might not be the code we write, but the code we trust...

Almost a year ago I went viral on 🤮LinkedIn🤮 with a post about Local LLMs which changed the course of my career. I showed people how to easily run local models using @ollama The advice is outdated now I’d ask people to run @lmstudio Bionic, but the idea isn’t. Hybrid is the way to go. @darkbloomai @gajesh @0xkydo dudes rock
A new paper from Apple engineers ends with a line we couldn’t have written better ourselves: "if idle macOS devices across organizations [...] can be securely federated, they could form a massive, shared GPU resource pool that benefits the broader ecosystem." That’s what we’re building with Darkbloom. The paper's Minions is a system that pool idle Apple Silicon Macs into a distributed GPU cloud for on-prem inference. Queue times went from 10+ hours to minutes. Zero new GPU purchases. Zero infrastructure cost. It runs inside Apple, on coworkers’ Macs, using the company’s own storage and access controls. When a team needs more capacity, they Slack colleagues and ask them to turn on the executor. Even in that setting, the top adoption concern was data confidentiality. People were wary of their jobs running on a colleague’s Mac. Apple’s fix was to keep each team’s work on its own team’s machines. Which brings it back to that one word in the conclusion: “securely.” Inside a company, you can shrink the network until you trust everyone in it. On an open network, the machine belongs to a stranger and there’s no one to Slack. Keeping prompts private and outputs honest on hardware you don’t control is the hard problem that we solved at Darkbloom. Apple built the on-prem version. Darkbloom is the open one.

crazy to think I was one of the 100,000 people testing Argon. Google is a behemoth indeed.
A conversation with Sergey Brin, @joshwoodward, @tulseedoshi, and @melvinjohnsonp about Gemini 4 Argon, how we got here, and the path ahead!

I get unlimited usage for this model. I got 2x DGX Sparks 🫪
GLM 5.3 Flash now gets $100 usage, next 3 days. $100 usage for $10 on GOAT plan. After that, we're increasing it to $80. 🐐

Another thing to mention is Argon is the best knowledge work model and does retain the best coherence over multiple documents while writing the best and most professional Google does not have a good consumer harness to use it in, but if you already have one, it works incredibly well

80% twitter users gone :(
Apparently Russian servers have been hit by a Ukrainian strike and immediately massive online hard right chatter has collapsed. This particular chatter was in support of Germany’s AFD, their equivalent to Reform, but similar patterns are being seen in hard right movements everywhere, including the UK. If anyone needed anymore evidence that Russia are driving a massive wave of hard right propaganda in Europe, this is it. So, all you “patriots” - you’ve been duped by Russia, and you are about as far from patriotic as anyone can be. You are easily brainwashed though. This is how propaganda works.

Dear Prime Minister Ambani, Please accept my humble apologies for not realizing that you are the real boss of India. Naturally, you would prefer to maintain your monopolistic exploitation of the great people of India, but would you nonetheless consider allowing Starlink to compete? There are many areas of India, as there are in all countries, with no Internet access, which denies children the opportunity for education and for small businesses the opportunity to sell their goods to a global market. Starlink would change their lives for the better. Thank you 🙏
