The overwhelming majority of people who use Queen Street have ALWAYS reached it by public transport, walking or cycling.
But… There are well over a thousand carparks basically on Queen Street, Civic and Victoria are always 50% empty on any given day apart from when a show is on

We need to shift the narrative from make petrol cheap to make petrol redundant.
The longer we rely on fossil fuels, the more expensive life becomes.

Typical neighborhoods in Berkeley and Hannover.
It looks like Berkeley is denser, right??
It's not even half as dense as the Hannover neighborhood.
Central Berkeley: ~16,000 / sq mi, ~12 units / acre.
Linden-Nord: ~43,000 / sq mi, ~41 units / acre.
And this is because 93% of housing units in the Hannover neighborhood are in buildings with 3+ units, where as Berkeley is mostly single-family homes.
The thin perimeter block apartments create neighborhoods that are denser yet greener than the single-family neighborhoods.

This stopped me in my tracks.
An independent study by @QMUL has found that after ULEZ was introduced, children’s lungs grew faster in Central London and have now caught up with children outside of the capital. Incredible.
Air pollution stunts children’s lung growth. New Queen Mary research found that improvements in air quality after the introduction of London’s ULEZ are associated with accelerated lung growth in children.

The gently sloping line at the bottom is our world 252 million years ago, when temperatures increased by 8C across 60,000 years killing 90% of all species.
It is a period known as The Great Dying.
That vertical red line is the world our children live in.

City centre upgrades take time but are worth it. It’s important to look back while focusing on the future. The team at the Auckland Urban Development Office knows how much I love before and after shots so they sent me these five images today to share.
Vision and hard decisions.

The Elizabeth Line moves more people daily than the busiest highway on Earth. Transit solves a geometry problem cars cannot.

this is a pretty fun side-by-side. britomart pre-takutai square and train station. auckland 2001 vs 2026
The Elizabeth Line has been a resounding success and has been FAR more popular than Government predictions though it would be.
We should be building far more lines up and down the country.

the thing that gets people on transit isn’t free fares it’s not having to check a schedule. a bus that costs $2 and comes every 6 minutes will outperform a free bus that comes every 30 minutes every single time. frequency is the product. the fare is a rounding error

Imagine if the government hadn’t undermined EV incentives, cleaner vehicle regs, walking & cycling funding & focus and not put all the eggs in 4 lane RONS everywhere.
We’d at the very least be more resilient and more able to pivot. They even took away our electric ferry funding.

Took this on my last bus ride into the city for the year. What a busy little festive city.
I 💚❤️ Tāmaki Makaurau.
