Only four percent of people win. Trying to get the system to sanction itself, however justified you might be and people usually are... Is like pissing in the wind 96% of the time. And still we try.

It can be incredibly difficult for an individual to prove discrimination & stressful to take an organisation to tribunal, most cases don't make it to to court. Meanwhile an independent review into @ace_national working culture raises many issues for global majority workers. (2/3)

How does a cinema receive almost half a million pounds to engage with 'local communities', and title this work "Another Country"? 😐

any cinema manager heading out to Cannes (and seemingly bragging about it) while Front of House staff - who ARE your cinema - are looking at pay cuts and/or monthly hardships for the pleasure of working in a negative environment... it's not a good look

1/ The concerns raised in this report point to why we need an independent anti racist reporting body. We frequently hear reports that industry workers feel discriminated against and fear reporting it will ‘damage’ their careers.

this thread is 🔥 inequality is endemic in the UK film industry. without looking out for each other, without caring for each other, and without working together towards real change eiff/filmhouse is going to happen again and again

It's really fucking hard right now to see everyone promoting BFI's LFF and showcasing how "good" UK cinema is right now when over 100 people in Scotland lost their job in the film sector due to lack of funding and support across two independent cinemas and a film festival.

It's this kind of passive response - positioning as bystanders - which just accepts this and sees workers unconsidered. Unsurprising, given #LFF partner with certain cinemas, and the treatment of cinema workers goes unanswered. And all with the recent 'Screen Culture' strategy.

It would have been better to see, given their coverage of similar issues, the treatment of cinema workers over the past couple of years (and beyond) at these cinemas at least mentioned... The romanticism of the "big screen" has long covered abusive work practices.

They refused to furlough their staff during lockdown, sacking then rehiring when opening again. Poorly run and managed. I feel for the staff going through this a second time in as many years! @cineworld

If cinemas will only operate if they keep their employees in precarious circumstances then they should not be in business.
I’m seeing increasing numbers of filmmakers and critics on here who seem to be rationalizing why it’s “OK” if movie theaters die off, and it feels like a mass surrender to a narrative that they know in their hearts is untrue.

I act glib, but I really miss the Tyneside Cinema. My last q&a was when I took myself to The Souvenir. I sat right on the front row & I asked a question even though it made me nervous. Joanna Hogg was a delight. I had a lovely time! Believe me I want to #SaveTyneside #TynesUp

Still raging at the bloke last night who said I personally ruined his daughter’s day whilst part of the dropped out line up was stood next to me... babe don’t get it twisted. SSD’s incompetence ruined your daughter’s day but also, well done making it about yourself 🤭

This statement from @SSDConcerts is simply not good enough. It reads more like a press release than a serious document, takes no accountability & offers no apology (1/2)
