What can Ohioan's expect from the Acton admin?🧵 - False rhetoric - Disingenuous accountability measures - Eligibility limitations - Lukewarm lawsuit defense in front of the Ohio SC - Underfunded schools

One of the biggest concerns is not the win by Acton but Democrat Kulewics winning the Attorney General seat. As AG, Democrat Kulewics is legally required to defend Ohio in the Vouchers Hurt Ohio lawsuit in the Supreme Court. School choice supporters would rightly be concerned about how vigorous this defense will be under Kulewics. A vigorous appeal may depend heavily on third party suppor and involvement. If lost, there are many legistlative adjustments that could be made to bring it in line with any ruling. A Democratic governor and the loss of the Republican supermajority makes such legislative moves more difficult. Not impossible, but more difficult.

This is the message that must be repeated in all states. 80% of scholarship dollars in Ohio go to disadvantaged students.
More than 70% of TEFA recipients come from low-income households or have a special learning need and are precisely the Texans who need educational opportunities most urgently. We'll fight for them.

All of this is driven by public schools being "underfunded". The problem is, the Fair School Funding Plan (FSFP) was developed by public school insiders and demands funding well in excess of other nationally recognized formulas. It increases funding requirements faster than inflation and faster than incomes. Because of this, there isn't enough money to "fully fund" public schools as defined by the FSFP. Even if you disband every School Choice program in Ohio. Acton would be forced to propose new taxes or disingenously large cuts to School Choice and other programs. She will definitely do the latter. She may do the former. Neither will fully pass the Republican legislature. Schools will remain "underfunded" according to the FSFP. And Acton will blame the Republicans. The media will likely echo her talking points. The cycle will continue.

The reason why the Public Education System is broken is because all the leaders and administrators are career educators who don’t understand efficiency or how to run a business. And when you get someone who does know that, the career educrats demonize them.

Anyone wondering why Acton supports taking away school choice from disadvantaged kids to “fully fund” wealthy suburban schools need only look at this.
For the Columbus folks -- look how blue Upper Arlington and New Albany have become!

This isn’t about what’s good for the kids, it’s what’s good for those employed by the schools.
Gina Hinojosa, respectfully, this is bigger than firing Mike Morath. Ending the voucher program before fixing why parents are leaving public schools puts the cart before the horse. Enforce the school safety laws already on the books, hold local boards accountable when they ignore them, and keep political indoctrination out of classrooms. Most Texas kids are still in public schools. Fix that system first before taking away the exit option for families who need it.

Yesterday: State tests are a waste of taxpayer $$$ and public school students shouldn’t take them. Today: Accountability & a level playing field mean school choice participants should take the state tests even if they don’t align with their curriculum. Walking contradiction.
Buddy with all of the rocks you’ve thrown; I’m praying for a level up on your dexterity. Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge. Buckle up for the referendum on your agenda. Accountability and a level playing field awaits.

Despite what Texas’s governor-elect, @GinaHinojosaTX says, vouchers aren’t a scam. -4 in 5 students in the program come from low-income families -1 in 4 has a disability. Those students deserve the opportunity they were given.

Phillis has repeatedly said the only way they could win their lawsuit is if the SC Justices up for re-election felt political pressure. A sweep by D's applies that pressure. Look for them to continue to apply it every way they can to polically influence the decision.

How do you think the two new Dem Ohio Supreme Court justices will effect the anticipated lawsuit ruling?

Everyone says their local school taxes are too high. But at least they get to vote on them and 100% goes to their local schools. Neither is true for state funding.
Say goodbye to Tax Relief. Democrats already preparing to jack taxes for their School Funding Plan when we are already at historic high is funding while enrollment down 12% and student outcomes down 10%! Democrats & Affordability are incompatible terms

School choice must be nipped in the bud. Because if it is given time to grow, it is clear that it helps those who need it most.
I am disappointed that vouchers are about to be ripped away from parents who just got them. School choice creates competition, and competition forces schools to make better decisions. Additionally, I'm not sure what she meant by ending the STAAR test. States have to give a standardized test to receive federal funds under ESSA. Standardized tests are the only true measure of achievement since grades are meaningless. We can't just eliminate accountability.

We agree. The goal will be to cap and regulate choice out of existence.
Replying to @NealMcCluskey
I don't think choice will go away in AZ, TX, or IA, nor will the new federal scholarship tax credit be stopped in its tracks. But get ready for lots of efforts to cap and regulate choice.

That didn't take long. Expect something similar in Ohio soon. Teachers unions will be demanding their pound of flesh.
