Been saying it forever; look high and adjust down.
When I met Barry Bonds at UCLA in 2007, I wanted to know how to improve my swing. But he taught me something that completely changed how I approached hitting. And it had nothing to do with my swing mechanics. He explained that pitchers typically want to establish their fastball down in the strike zone so they can play their off-speed pitches off that same location. That makes it harder for hitters to recognize what's coming. But here's what he wanted me to understand. If you start hunting fastballs up in the strike zone, something interesting happens. You begin taking more fastballs down in the zone. You also start laying off more off-speed pitches that finish down in the zone. And when a pitcher leaves an off-speed pitch up? That's a mistake. And those baseballs can go a LONG way when you hit them. So I started applying that approach. Instead of trying to hit every strike, I set my sights higher in the zone and looked for pitches I could drive. And here's what happened. My walks went up. I started making more hard contact. And I became more selective about the pitches I was swinging at. All because I changed where I was looking for the baseball. So here's what I'd recommend to young hitters who want to improve their pitch selection. 1. Hunt the fastball up in the zone. Especially early in the count, look for a fastball in the upper part of the strike zone that you can drive. 2. Be willing to take pitches down in the zone. If you're hunting the fastball up, you don't have to chase every fastball or off-speed pitch down. Make the pitcher bring the baseball into the area you're looking for. 3. Don't miss the hanging off-speed pitch. If you're looking up in the zone and the pitcher leaves a breaking ball or changeup up there, be ready to attack it. Those are pitches you can drive for extra bases. Now, this doesn't mean you should take every pitch down in the zone. When you get to two strikes, you have to adjust and protect the plate. But early in the count, you can be selective and hunt pitches you can do damage with. Because there's one thing Barry Bonds helped me understand... You don't have to swing at every strike to be a great hitter. You have to recognize which strikes give you the best opportunity to do damage. Stop trying to hit every pitch. Start hunting the pitches you can drive. Hope this helps, Jermaine Curtis P.S. - If you enjoyed this, share it. (This tells me you want more content like this)

HS hitters. Listen and let Votto’s words sink in. What he’s saying should sound very familiar.
"The guy that used to hit .300, I'm sorry to tell you, is going to hit .240, .250 today. It just is what it is." @JoeyVotto breaks down why the league does not have more players like Luis Arraez and explains how baseball's evolution has led to that trend.

PITT camp on 9/19. Threw 4 innings against a strong Allegheny Pirates team. Had 3 strikeouts, 2 hits, 0 earned runs, and 0 walks. Consistently hitting 87MPH with 2200-2300 spin rate. Throwing all pitches for strikes!

Share if you agree. Stay to play is blatantly stealing from parents and organizations. A lot of parents bust their asses to provide the travel ball experience for their children. Why do tournament organizations think they deserve kick backs on overpriced rooms? Do the tournament organizations think parents are idiots or do they think parents owe them donations? Why would any parent or organization pay more for the same rooms they could get cheaper by booking them themselves? Do these tournament organizations really think they are entitled to parents and organizations money? Have these tournament organizations ever heard of Airbnb and other affordable rental options? Gate Fees I have no problem with gate fees. But damn have someone at the gate collecting the freaking money. Asking organizations to pay you gate fees at registration advertises how lazy and entitled you really are.

Parents Please Read. Have you ever wondered why travel baseball is so expensive? I registered for a three game guarantee tournament in Jacksonville Florida for two teams. My cart included the PG team registration fee of $99.00 per team. A $1600 hotel penalty. A $590 gate fee and the normal registration of $1295 per team for two teams. This brings the total to $4978 to bring two teams to Jacksonville for a three game guarantee tournament. That is $830 per team per game. Our group travels in vans and packs kids into air BnB houses to make it affordable for parents that can't attend because of something called work. Perfect Game not only mandates hotel rooms but the requirement of 34 rooms is absolutely criminal. Any team on a budget that travels with the team and coaches would not need close to that many rooms. They would put four kids in a room and have a coaches room in essence needing five rooms. Perfect Game assumes this is vacation time for the kids and parents and everyone has money to spend and vacation leave time. NLB is in the panhandle of Florida and parents bust their asses to be able to provide their kids the travel ball experience. We do everything in our power to make it affordable for parents and Perfect Game should do the same. Hi Ryan, I assume you are inquiring about the removal of the hotel waiver fees associated with the PG BCS 18U National Championship. Unfortunately, we are not able to remove these fees, as the PG Lodging Policy was agreed to at the time of tournament registration. Since your team is located approximately 300 miles from the event location, the team is required to fulfill the minimum hotel requirement of 34 room nights. Between the two teams, there was only 1 reservation made, totaling 4 room nights. As a result, the required room-night minimum was not met, and the hotel waiver fee remains applicable for both teams. Thank you for your understanding. Tia PG Hotel Operations

This is for parents who bitch, moan, and cause drama because their son(s) haven’t the talent to be a starter or haven’t performed well enough in practices to earn playing time.
Parents If your son is good enough you won't ever have to worry about politics or playing time in baseball. Politics is reserved for the average and below average.

5 THINGS I BELIEVE COLLEGE COACHES ARE REALLY EVALUATING 👇⚾️ After spending most of my life in this game, as a player, coach, and evaluator; here are 5 things I believe matter when college coaches are deciding who they want in their program. 1️⃣ PHYSICALITY You don't have to be 6-foot-4. But you better have some kind of physical presence. Strength. Twitch. Speed. Durability. Something. College baseball is played by grown men. Coaches are trying to figure out if your body can handle that environment, and what it could look like 2-3 years from now. 2️⃣ CURRENT SKILL + CEILING What can you do RIGHT NOW? And maybe just as importantly... What could you become? Velocity, bat speed, defense, command, power, those things matter. But coaches are also projecting. Frame. Movement. Arm action. Athleticism. Physical maturity. Adjustability. They're not just recruiting today's player. They're betting on tomorrow's. 3️⃣ ATHLETICISM • Can you move? • Can you adjust? • Can you figure things out when something isn't working? This is one reason I've always valued multi-sport athletes. Different sports force you to move differently, compete differently and solve problems in real time. Athletes tend to find a way. 4️⃣ COMPETITIVE MAKEUP What happens when things go BAD? • You strike out. • You give up three runs. • An umpire squeezes you. • Someone takes your starting job. Now what? College coaches aren't only evaluating your highlights. They're evaluating your response to adversity. Give me the kid who WANTS the ball when the game gets uncomfortable. 5️⃣ CHARACTER / TEAMMATE This one gets overlooked by players way too often. • How do you treat your teammates? • How do you respond to coaching? • What does your body language look like when you're 0-for-4? • Do you celebrate somebody else's success? College coaches aren't just adding talent. They're adding someone to their locker room for the next 3-5 years. Talent gets you evaluated. But the TOTAL PACKAGE gets you recruited. 📈⚾️
