I am just a dumb fisherman so I don’t understand this.
You claim the State is losing billions of revenue because at sea processors hire a majority of out of state workers ( like every industry in the state)? Alaskan CDQ groups own 33% of the pollock fishery, by the way. The offshore pollock fishery is worth about $160 mil ex vessel and $800 mil first wholesale. The state landing tax is about $11mil a year collected as revenue. These are federal fisheries so the state doesn’t really have a say in hiring decisions and they don’t in state fisheries either.
But you think the graphic-worthy-I got- you news or policy is that out of state workers are hired? Billion$ of dollars of lost revenue? Huh?
This post reads in my opinion like: I like the new pink mascara and I love the bubble gum lip gloss.
But I am just a dumb fisherman. @AlaskanRants

Just so we all understand the dynamic here…
Over 90% of AK factory trawler employment is held by non-Alaskans. Specifically, non-resident Alaskans. A significant portion of that includes non-US citizen workers.
What does this mean for the Alaska economy?
👉Not one but TWO layers of economic leakage.
🪢Layer One🪢
Non-resident workers contribute very little to the circular Alaskan economy directly and take their earnings to Seattle, Oregon or whatever state they reside in.
🪢Layer Two🪢
Non-citizen workers contribute very little to the circular Alaskan economy. They ALSO contribute very little to the US circular economy. They send the majority of their earnings back to their country of origin.
Compound this over decades and we are talking BILLIONS of lost in-state revenue and the many direct benefits to Alaska and Alaskan families that come with.
😑 Alaskans really should be more upset about this.
